Job Description

The Superintendent Maintenance, Shift leads a team of maintenance technicians and specialists accountable for maintaining mail handling and processing equipment in optimal condition and operating to approved standards to meet operational and legislated requirements.  Ensures that preventative maintenance programs are executed in accordance with maintenance plans, schedules and standards. Oversees the execution of corrective maintenance, breakdown maintenance and overhauls.  Promotes and maintains a safe working environment ensures quality of work through direct observation and follow-up. Performs scheduling functions in the absence of a Superintendent Maintenance, Scheduling.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Superintendent Maintenance, Shift:

1.    Coordinates the implementation of all maintenance programs for mail processing and handling equipment so that the equipment meets set performance standards (KPI) and legislated requirements.

2.    Achieves optimum equipment performance through the execution of preventative maintenance programs to meet maintenance plans, schedules, and standards. 

3.    Liaises with the Superintendent Maintenance, Scheduling in order to make adjustments to the schedule, and provide feedback regarding work completed/not completed. Performs scheduling and planning (corrective work) duties as required.

4.    Oversees the execution of corrective and breakdown maintenance activities to ensure they are carried out safely, correctly, and efficiently in order to maximize equipment availability. 

5.    Promotes and maintains a safe working environment by providing appropriate training, documentation, personal protective equipment, tools, and established procedures. Ensures safety is at the forefront of all work practices and encourages ideas and initiative among team members.

6.    Assigns qualified employees to effectively execute programs and repairs. Carries out the full range of staff management functions at the first management level.

7.    Ensures that labour and material resources are adequate to execute maintenance programs and repairs; provides up to date technical reference material for the use of plant maintenance staff.

8.    Ensures that work orders, logs and other documentation are complete, accurate and submitted as per policy. 

9.    Provides technical support to implement and monitor approved projects.

10.    Manages maintenance and support contracts with external contractors.

11.    Interfaces between Canada Post Corporation (CPC) and facilities management. In some locations manages contracted building services.

12.    Keeps abreast of new technologies, maintenance, and management practices through job related training.

13.    Ensures, through succession planning and training, a continuing development of competent staff. 

Qualifications

Education


•    High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (Equivalent experience, may be accepted in lieu of a High School diploma).

Experience


•    A post-secondary degree or diploma in any of the following areas: mechanical, electrical or electronics or any related discipline AND a minimum of 2 years’ experience managing a team within a unionized environment OR


•    Minimum of 5 years of concurrent and recent experience coaching, mentoring and/or supervising employees or contractors within an industrial maintenance setting AND


•    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., understand the major features of each software application)

Assets


•    Red Seal designation (Millwright or Industrial Electrician) or designation as PEng, EIT, or CET


•    Experience within industries heavily dependent on rotating equipment or conveyor systems to move materials or packages


•    Working knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to Lock out Tag Out procedures (CSA Z460-13 "Control of Hazardous Energy - Lockout and Other Methods) and Working at Heights (Canada Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, SOR/86-304, Sections 12.01 to 12.09)


•    Experience with CMMS asset management systems (MAXIMO as a preference)
