Job Summary:
The WB Patrol Senior Specialist in Fall Protection and Rescue will oversee all conventional fall protection and aerial rescue at Whistler Backcomb. This position will also act at a Supervisory level on Patrol when needed. This is a leadership position and requires performance at a high level with the intent of ensuring operational compliance in fall protection and aerial rescue across all departments at Whistler Blackcomb and promoting a shift in safety culture to align with the core competencies and values of the Company. The job requires strong leadership qualities, the ability to problem solve, think creatively, and have the ability to build a positive, winning culture and encourage safety. .
Job Responsibilities:
- Deliver an “Experience of a Lifetime” to our guests and employees. Promotes a guest service and safety culture within the department.
- Assists with the oversight of the day-to-day operations of Patrol, including all facets of guest service, guest and employee safety, medical care, snow safety, mountain maintenance, lift evacuation, rope rescue and SAR.
- Oversight of all conventional fall protection, rope access, lift evacuation and aerial rescue in-resort:
- Guidance on operational compliance for all departments conducting work at height
- Help lead and develop training programs for departments in resort
- Oversight of training record keeping for fall protection from each department
- Advise and consult on equipment purchase, management and use
- Works closely with other on-mountain departments, managers, and third party agencies vis a vis fall protection
- Functions appropriately in the absence of the Assistant Patrol Manager and/or Patrol Supervisor.
- Work with WB Patrol Training Supervisor on training programs
- Oversee all conventional rope rescue, lift evacuation and aerial rescue related programs, queries, training initiatives, courses, equipment purchases and rescue procedures for ski patrol
- Assist in training and development of local instructor teams for all departments conducting work at height.
- Consult with Fall Protection Manager on technical troubleshooting in-resort
- Help develop and evolve fall protection, rescue and lift evacuation systems across the enterprise
- Travel to other resorts for training and/or instruction
- Demonstrates working knowledge of mountain operations including but not limited to: snowmaking, grooming, risk management, terrain parks, lift maintenance, race crew, lift operations, mountain safety, and mountain dining and special events.

Job Qualifcations:
- 4 seasons professional ski or bike patrol experience preferred
- SPRAT/IRATA certification an asset
- Leadership experience
- Teaching experience
- Experience in fall protection and/or rope rescue/lift evacuation systems
- Has a good understanding of Whistler Blackcomb and Vail procedures and leads by example by abiding by company SOP’s and SOG’s.
- Unrestricted BC Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract mandatory
- Strong ability to remain calm and make sound decisions while under pressure and in emergency situations.
- Working computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Google Sheets/Docs and able to navigate Vail Resorts Platforms.
- Must be able to handle conflict with diplomacy and tact.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Proof of clear criminal record check
