About the Role:
Reporting to the Arts and Cultural Programming Manager, the Fashion Studio Coordinator will provide mentorship to the youth in their artistic endeavors as well as provide support with community projects within the City of Edmonton.
This is a role working 37.5 hours/week. The hourly wage is $21.50/hour. After completing the probation period, employees are offered generous health and dental benefits.
What you would do:
- Implementation of iHuman’s Fashion Studio and assistance with Theatre programming.
- Facilitation of workshops.
- Support the iHuman youth artists with their projects.
- Assist with planning, promotion, and execution of iHuman Studio’s events, productions, exhibitions, etc., independently and in concert with third parties.
- Support Studio Volunteers by providing guidance on their tasks for the day.
- Upkeep of studio space and equipment.
- Collaborate with the Arts and Cultural Programming Manager to expand community partnerships and build solid relationships for the future.
- Maintain Fashion Studio inventory.
- Keep documentation of Fashion Studio and Theatre activity.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Technical proficiency in sewing machine operation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of garment building from concept to construction, drafting and working from patterns, and the ability to convey that knowledge to others.
- Well-honed coaching skills, well organized, balanced ability to function independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to forge engaging and trusting relationships with young people between the ages of 12-24 while maintaining healthy professional boundaries.
- Prior experience or appreciation of harm-reduction and trauma-informed practices.
- Awareness of the ecology of partners (funders, venues, promoters, festivals, organizations, training institutions, etc.) that constitute the ecology of arts presenters in this territory, and the potential places for iHuman in that ecology.
- Effective communication skills both oral and written.
- Basic competency in computers and numeracy.
- Understanding of Indigenous cultural connections, indigenous world views, and the complex effects of colonization upon the First Nations of Turtle Island.
- A clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
