As Naval Architect, Structural steel, you will be responsible to provide technical direction, through the design, to ensure the vessel?s full operational integrity during service.More specifically, you will:
- Concept, Contract Design and Specification Review;
- Functional Design Review;
- Planning of Subcontract Design Work Packages;
- Ongoing Review of Subcontractor Work Performance;
- Review of Subcontractor Detail Design Work;
- Responsible for the guide and fabrication/assembly of various ship components;
- Create (or review) and maintain weight records;
- Supervise and inspect major equipment arrangement changes and entry into service, as related to the discipline;
- Supervise technicians, technologists, and other engineers to review and approve drawings, calculations, and cost estimates, as needed;
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards, including but not limited to the rules and regulations of the classification society, IMO, and Transport Canada;
- Utilize drawing software and perform calculations relating to the discipline, as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor?s degree in naval architecture and marine engineering or marine engineering technology;
- Fifteen (15) or more years of relevant experience;
- Knowledge of engineering design principles and methods necessary to adequately dimension and detail complete design concepts;
- Experience of working in an industrial environment or shipyard is considered essential,
- Knowledge of Transport Canada is considered essential;
- Be organized, meet deadlines and be able to work under pressure;
- Strong ability to work within a team and to collaborate closely with clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies;
- Experience with classification society rules and regulations, Transport Canada, IMO, IACS;
- Good knowledge of Aveva Marine (structure), Rhino, AutoCAD, Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access);
- Bilingual (French and English). Proficiency in English is required for this position, as the incumbent will be required to interact with our English-speaking clients, partners, and suppliers;
- Successfully complete the investigation and security clearance process required by the federal government?s Contract Security Program.
