Counsellor, Brief Counselling Program (Adult and Youth)

Direct Service – (OPSEU)

Full-Time, Contract (Approximately 12 months) 

St. Thomas, Ontario (Elgin Zone)

This is a front-line, clinical position providing intake, screening, assessment, referrals, and treatment planning in the form of structured and time limited counselling services for youth and adults experiencing addiction and/or mental health concerns. Counselling will be offered in an individual, one to one capacity as well as a group approach. The counsellor will provide virtual and in person services to best meet the needs of the individual seeking services. This split role will provide prioritized services to youth (6-12 sessions) and also support adults in the Brief Counselling Program (1-3 sessions).

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

• What you'll be making -  Starting rate for this role is $26.48 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ($29.28 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated):
  • Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g. OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation
  • Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($33.56 per hour for non-regulated, and $36.35 per hour for regulated)
  • For internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement
• When you'll work - 70 hours over two-week period; Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

• Complete clinical screening, assessment(s), planning and education where appropriate for clients, including evaluation of the impact of biochemical, psychodynamic, social, and general environmental factors on their adaptive functioning.
• Provide brief client-centered, solution focused, supportive, psychodynamic counselling to individuals referred for service. (individual sessions) 
• Provide group treatment and/or facilitate group support meetings as required using various group approaches appropriate need, including mutual aid, support groups, intensive therapy groups, and specialized groups 
• Manage and meet targets for a clinical caseload and maintain direct service requirements.
• Engage in community development, community awareness, education and outreach as designated and appropriate, representing the agency in a professional manner.  On occasion, these services may be provided outside of regular office hours. Education and awareness may include presentations, videos, psychoeducational information etc.
• Actively pursue professional development opportunities and to maintain knowledge of relevant therapeutic models, best practices, and research.
• Adhere rules for professional conduct established by a body that regulates the profession (psychotherapist, social worker, psychologist, associate psychologist)
• Complete clinical documentation in accordance with policies and procedures and with sector best practices.
• Complete general administrative responsibilities, including maintaining statistics and preparing letters and reports as required and scheduling.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

We require the following qualifications:

• University degree in a relevant area of study, preferably in the area of social work, psychology, or occupational therapy; a degree in nursing will also be considered equivalent when combined with educational or experiential specialization in psychiatric nursing ( Primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process, i.e. an original degree/diploma/certificate or official transcript; for ongoing education, an unofficial transcript will be accepted)
• First Aid & CPR Level C
• Clear, current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
• Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:

• Five (5) years’ experience providing direct clinical services to individuals with serious mental illness, with preference given to individuals with psychotherapeutic counselling experience
• Registration and in good standing with a professional college (i.e. OCSWSSW, COTO, CPRO, CNO) 
• Knowledgeable in variety of therapeutic approaches (Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solutions Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy etc) 
• Clinical experience working with youth and transitional age
• Employment experience working with individuals with mental health and/or addictions or in a supportive capacity
• Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada
