Job description
This role is responsible for providing technical support and coordination of production of online courses for Afghan learners. This role includes ensuring online courses meet international standards for design, coordinating production of several courses concurrently, and coordinating a team to move courses through each stage of production (including content development, review, testing, translation, editing), to launch and student enrollment and completion. Courses are hosted on DD Courses, a Moodle-based multilingual courseware platform developed for use in Afghanistan. We are seeking someone experienced in virtual learning design and coordination, who is comfortable interacting in a cross cultural context, working with a variety of stakeholders including instructors, course writers, school leaders, developers, and others. We are looking for a highly motivated person who thrives in a fast paced work environment, who enjoys working closely with a small international team accountable to each other, and also works with minimal supervision.
Job Duties and Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure courses meet high quality educational standards for distance education aligned with international standards;
- Lead and manage quality instructional design and universal design for learning, based on international standards, on all courses. Includes integrating assessment tools to ensure participants reach competency;
- Support coordination of course developers, translators, software developers, reviewers and others involved in the process of developing and publishing courses to move courses through each successive stage of development, to publication and launch;
- Establish work plans and tools to push new courses through the development process, and maintain a dashboard to track status of courses;
- Work with the Licensing Specialist, to coordinate partnerships with third party content providers, such as seeking permission from license holders to localize and/or translate third party courses;
- Collect learner enrollment, progress, learner analytics, assessment and completion of courses;
- Create explanatory and training materials for instructors, colleagues and partners to understand and adhere to policies, processes and workflows used in DD Academi;
- Develop and/or support the development of explainer videos and other tools to support DD Courses students and users;
- Serve as a the Distance Education Specialist for the GAC-funded DD Classroom project
- Occasionally liaise with partner organizations and attend meetings representing DD Academi, the umbrella program of DD Courses;
- Attend team meetings, monthly staff meetings, annual staff retreat, AGM, and other meetings virtually and in-person as required, within Canada;
- Occasionally support the Fund Development Team by contributing technical expertise to proposal development for projects related to DD Academi and/or the Tech for Ed Program;
- Other related tasks, as required.

Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a comparable role, preferably in an online environment
- Minimum Bachelor degree in educational technology, distance education, or related field; graduate level education preferred
- Strong expertise in virtual learning environments, online teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and educational technology
- Results-oriented, and can work independently
- Able to solve problems and troubleshoot solutions and with a can-do attitude, juggling competing demands
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Passion for making the right to learn a reality for all and for the power of education to transform futures
Preferred/helpful:
- Experience working with a multinational team both in person and remotely
- Facility with a number of technology options in low-bandwidth environments
- Facility with H5P and other online learning tools
- Facility with graphic design programs such as Canva
- Familiarity with video editing software such as Powtoon
- Experience working on shared drives such as GoogleDrive
