We are accepting applications for two full-time term Parks Labourer Students to join our Parks team for a four month term, May to August 2024.

The Parks Labourer Student performs a variety of outdoor activities including, but not limited to, the operation and maintenance of the CVRD’s parks and trails and helping to educate the public on park rules. Reporting to the Senior Parks Technician, the primary responsibilities of this role include:

Performing general labour activities including garbage pick-up, sweeping, removing invasive species, cleaning, painting, shoveling and other labour-related tasks within the CVRD parks;
Operating various light trucks, small equipment and hand tools;
Constructing new trails in park settings;
Carrying out safe work practices, reporting unsafe situations and implementing emergency procedures as directed;
Interacting with and educating the public on the regional district’s bylaws pertaining to parks;
Assisting with routine maintenance in all parks as required.

Our ideal candidate is:
Comfortable working in an outdoor, wilderness environment in all-weather conditions, operating small equipment and interacting with the public, with over six months up to one year of directly related experience;
Returning to a provincially recognized educational institute with a minimum of Grade 12 education (or equivalent) and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License;
Certified in Emergency First Aid (Occupational First Aid Level 1 is an asset);
Courteous and tactful with the ability to relate effectively with the general public, contractors, volunteers and coworkers;
Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills;
Safety-conscious with a demonstrated commitment to safe work practices;
Comfortable using hand tools, working in awkward positions, standing and walking throughout the day and performing heavy manual work as required.

The hours of work for these positions will be 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday with occasional weekend work as needed. These positions are conditionally funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. In addition to the above qualifications, job applicants must meet the eligibility criteria as defined by the program and must be returning to a provincially recognized education institute.
