Our client is an established, well-managed, medium-sized Electrical Consulting Engineering firm with 4 Canadian offices. Their North York office has been in business for over 15 years, and works with clients in the Buildings, High-Voltage (Substations), and Nuclear sectors. They are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer / Designer – Project Manager to join their “buildings” team and work on a wide variety of commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential construction projects.
Your new role
As an Electrical Engineer / Designer – Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing and executing the design of electrical systems on building projects which will include the following:
Electrical Engineering Services provided:
Design (calculations, drawings and specification) and project administration during implementation of:
- Lighting Distribution Systems, including indoor and outdoor lighting.
- Lighting Control systems (Standard computerized systems, addressable lighting control, daylight harvesting and occupancy sensors).
- Power Substation, power distribution grid, overhead and underground.
- Indoor and outdoor Transformer vaults and Electrical Rooms
- Building Power Distribution
- Motor Controls Centers, Motor VFD controls, Motor starting schemes.
- Emergency Power Systems (Generators, Inverters, Battery Units) and UPS systems
- Medium and Low Voltage Switchgears, Switchboards and Panelboards.
- Power bus systems for buildings and power substations.
- Power distribution for offices. Office fit-up electrical systems (receptacles, pre-wired furniture, structured wiring systems and raceways
- Protection and control system
- Electrical studies (short circuit, protection coordination, load flow and arc flash studies).
- Feasibility Studies and Reports for:
- Energy Efficiency – lighting, lighting control, motors, variable speed drives.
- MCC and power distribution assessment and upgrades.
- Code compliance reviews for lighting, emergency and exit lighting, electrical systems.
- Security Systems:
Design (calculation, drawings and specification) and project administration during implementation for: - Video surveillance systems including, cameras, DVR, surveillance and monitoring stations.
- Door control systems including card access systems, magnetic door locks, electric strikes, card readers, door hold open/closed systems etc.
- Duress systems alarms including monitoring stations, local alarm lights , chimes or horns, duress buttons, remote annunciate panels
- Public address systems – including central unit with voice multichannel multiplexer, media systems, central clock, local speakers, microphones and switching, telephone systems interface for paging over the telephone system.
- Intrusion alarm systems including door contacts, beam detectors, motion sensors, glass break sensors, alarm sirens, annunciation and programming pads, voice and fingerprints recognition systems, etc.
- Modem system for remote annunciation of an alarm to security monitoring and response units or OPP.
IT Systems:
Design (calculation, drawings and specification) and project administration during implementation for:
- Server room, Computer Rooms – rack systems.
- Cable management systems for Data Centre and Server Rooms
- Network infrastructure including patch panels, switches, routers, horizontal copper cables, uplink cables copper or fiber optic.
- Fiber optic infrastructure single and multimode, patch panels and cable terminations.
- UPS systems for the IT rooms or Data Centres.
- Servers, File storage drivers, Data Back-up systems (tape, external drives or cloud).
Fire Protection Systems:
Design (calculation, drawings and specification) and project administration during implementation for:
- Fire alarm systems, conventional and addressable, single and double stage systems.
- Fire suppression systems, sprinkler (wet and dry),
- Pre-action fire systems for data centers, server rooms and other spaces with electrical and electronic equipment or special storage areas where water suppression can cause major damage to the stored equipment or stored materials.
- Standpipe fire hose cabinet fire protection systems.
- CO and CO2 detection systems.
- Fire pumps, sprinkler pumps complete with emergency power supply and dedicated automatic transfer switches.
Life Safety Systems:
Design (calculation, drawings and specification) and project administration during implementation for:
- Emergency Lighting systems connected to emergency back-up power generator, inverters and battery units. Code Compliance for life safety systems (emergency and exit lighting).
- Emergency back-up power systems complete with distribution.
- Exit lighting and exit signage – Code compliance
- Feasibility Studies and Reports for:
- Code compliance for emergency and exit lighting.
- Code compliance for fire alarm and fire protection systems and other life safety systems.
What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3-7 years of experience in power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, and telecommunication systems, as well as a degree / diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized post graduate degree. A (P.Eng) or (C.E.T) designation would be considered strong assets, but are not strict requirements for this role. Excellent Communication, time management, and client-facing skills will be needed, as the expectation will be to autonomously manage your project from start to finish.
