Position: Assisted Living Worker
Wages: $27.11 per hour

Reporting to the Site Manager or Charge Nurse (LPN), Assisted Living Workers provide service to residents/clients including personal care, delivering medications, activities of daily living, laundry, housekeeping, portering, recreational activities, and leisure activities while ensuring a positive and safe, daily living experience for each resident/client. Assisted Living Workers ensure resident/client care is being delivered in a way that acknowledges resident/client choice, dignity, privacy, independence, spirituality, and individuality inclusive of a home-like environment.
Educational and other Qualifications
- Health Care Aide Certificate or equivalent
- GED or Grade 10 English equivalency
- ALBERTA EMPLOYEES: Registration with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
- ALBERTA EMPLOYEES: Food Safety Basics or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional
- Able to communicate information in English both verbally and in writing so others can easily interpret and understand it fully
- Proficient using a computer including email and internet
- Exhibits open and sincere approach to relating to people by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
- Recognizes and responds effectively to verbal and non-verbal cues
- Maintains an individual's dignity and self-worth during conversations
- Exceptional active listening skills
- Demonstrates flexibility by changing routine to accommodate resident/client needs
Work Experience
- Experience working with the elderly and disabled
- Palliative care experience
- Dementia care experience
- Provides service to residents/clients including personal care, activities of daily living, laundry, housekeeping, portering, recreational activities, and leisure activities where applicable
- Delivers a positive dining experience to residents/clients through care in food handling, following assigned meal plans, cooking, serving and the suitable use of assessment skills for each resident/client (food intake, consistency of food)
- Reports changes in resident/client conditions as well as any pertinent information to LPN in a timely manner
- Demonstrates flexibility by being willing to change routine to accommodate resident/client needs
- Ensures resident/client care is delivered in a way that acknowledges resident/client choice, dignity, privacy, independence, spirituality, and individuality inclusive of a home-like environment
- Provides quality service according to the resident's/client's care plan and the GSS Standards of Care including participating in the development and updating of care guides/plans
- Participates in care conferences as required
- Delivers medications according to GSS medication processes and procedures
- Actively participates in team meetings and sharing of ideas
- Identifies and reports problems, risk issues and participates in finding solutions through constructive problem solving
- Promotes teamwork by helping others as a peer coach through the sharing of knowledge and experience to enhance resident/client care
- Openly requests assistance when needed
- Follows emergency procedures according to GSS policies and procedures
- Demonstrates dependability by reporting for work on time and as scheduled
- Maintains a high standard of cleanliness, keeping the working environment consistently tidy
- Adheres to all infection control practices and procedures
- Ensures an environment and resources which nurture spirituality
- Other related duties as assigned
