AGS Automotive Systems is a full-service automotive supplier specializing in the manufacture and supply of complex high value-add automotive metal components, including in particular front and rear impact assemblies, principally for pick-ups and the heavy truck market. SUMMARY:
The CMM Technician is responsible for development of metrological process for in-house, purchased, and assembled parts including programming a Coordinate Measuring Machine, Faro Arm and/or determining other inspection equipment to be used.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute detailed inspection control plans and part/assembly layouts utilizing GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to assure parts meet design specifications. Measure parts using hand gages (micrometers, calipers, height stands, protractors, etc). Based upon measurement results, prepare detailed layout reports that will provide engineering, supplier, assembly, and fabrications shops the data required to make the necessary process adjustments.
- Responsible for programming simple, complex, prismatic, and non-prismatic parts into Coordinate Measuring Machines and Faro Type Inspection equipment.
- Performs advanced inspection and analysis of results with regards to fabricated, assembled parts and weldments using a wide range of gages tools and equipment. Capable of determining inspection set-up of complicated parts.
- Use 3D inspection software, Microsoft Excel, and other general computer software.
- Executes unit and process inspection and evaluation as directed by Quality Engineer / Manager.
- Executes tasks by adhering to forms and instructions as required by Quality Engineer / Manager.
- Investigates, analyzes, and assures accuracy of information entered into Quality managed data collection tools as directed by Quality Engineer / Manager.
- Provides statistical and graphical analysis of data.
- Plans and performs work accurately and in a cost-efficient manner.
- Must be capable of participating on a project team as needed.
- Work with Program Managers (internal and external) on adjustments required to product or tooling based on CMM
- Maintains appropriate documentation to meet company QMS requirements.
- Perform to an established methods and standards; meeting or exceeding the departments quality and productivity goals. Job performance will be strongly measured in these areas. Individual is responsible for initiation of communication to Quality Engineer / Manager in these areas as well as when quality results are below standards or management expectations.
- Contracting and scheduling annual calibration of inspection equipment by ISO17025 Certified Source.
- Schedule, track and perform routine and preventive equipment maintenance CMM
- Work with limited supervision.
- Communicate well with others and work in a manner to support a team environment.
- Perform to company 5S standard.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Responsible for maintaining communication to appropriate management and support personnel concerning safety, quality, and any issues as they arise.
- Performs other duties within the scope of job assignment as assigned by Team Leader, Quality Engineer or Manager.
- Must perform duties in compliance with all safety rules and regulations required by the Company, Local, State and Federal provisions.
Qualifications
CAPABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading is preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Proficient with MS Office and Statistical Software. (DataPage, Minitab, or similar).
- Must have the ability to read product drawings, Bills of Materials, GD&T and free-hand sketch concepts & ideas.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Basic algebra and trigonometry skills are preferred.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to act as technical resource for departmental inspection, receiving inspection, in process auditing, and final inspection.
- Moderate computer and statistical analysis skills preferred.
EDUCATION:
- Associate or Technical Degree or engineering support experience in automotive or golf car industry preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in Quality Assurance or related area.
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in the use of GD&T.
- Must be an accomplished CMM/FARO Arm programmer with 2-3 years of programming experience (simple, complex, prismatic and non prismatic parts).
