We are seeking an experienced Senior Landscape Ecologist to join our team of talented professionals in the Northeast region. Reporting to the Land, Ecosystem, and Conservation (LEC) Manager of Lands Delivery and Coordination North, you will play a role in shaping the future of land management and biodiversity conservation. As a key team member, you will lead initiatives ensuring the integration of conservation and biodiversity principles in Land Use Framework (LUF) and Sub-Regional Planning processes. Your responsibilities include providing subject matter expertise, guiding local, sector-based, and conservation land planning, and contributing to the development of policies and frameworks that support ecological resilience.
In this influential role, you will oversee a diverse team dedicated to implementing large-scale integrated resource management solutions and protected area management and planning. Collaborating closely with land management specialists, ecologists, planners and other key stakeholders, you will develop strategic programs that effectively integrate various activities on public lands, from oil and gas to agriculture and recreation, using Integrated Resource Management principles. Your leadership will be instrumental in regional conservation planning, implementation, and the understanding of cumulative effects on land and resources. You will foster community relations, provide expert advice, and contribute to the development of sub-regional plans.

Required :
• The minimum recruitment for this role is a university degree in natural sciences or related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of related experience in the concepts, principles and applications of biodiversity conservation.
• Fully capable of operating specialized equipment (e.g. ATV, 4x4, snowmobile, GPS etc.)
• Capable of delivering and participating in biophysical inventories and assessments in remote locations.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or Assets:
• A post-graduate degree (PhD) in natural resource management and ecology is strongly preferred.
• Extensive and detailed knowledge of data collection techniques, population, habitat and inventory monitoring, species life histories, analysis and modeling.
• Demonstrated knowledge, developed skills, and experience in resource management, with a proven ability to lead the coordination and delivery of integrated resource management actions
• The ideal candidate should have managed Crown Land with ecological or conservation value, implemented relevant actions from higher-level plans, and contributed to the development and implementation of conservation land planning.
• Experience in consulting with internal and external stakeholders to clarify issues and data is also crucial.
• A background in developing strategic programs that integrate various activities on public land, such as oil and gas, coal mining, surface materials, agriculture, and recreation.
• Ability to lead and provide mentorship to teams of professional and technical personnel.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Decision making, leadership and project management skills.
• Conflict resolution, problem solving, assessment of complex situations, and facilitation skills.
• Capacity to think critically, analyze, plan, innovate and act strategically and systematically.
• Strong issues management abilities.
• Able to work independently with minimal direction.
• Skill to develop working relationships and collaborative partnerships with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
• Excellent computer skills in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), data analysis, modelling, use of specialized programs and data base management.
Hours of Work: 36.25 hours of work per week, Monday to Friday permanent position in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Other location may be considered.
This is a full-time permanent opportunity, which will be located in Spruce Grove. Other locations in the northeast region of Alberta with a government office may be considered. A written assessment may be administered as part of the recruitment process.
The position requires travel throughout northeastern Alberta, and periodically to other areas of Alberta. At times, the position will be required to work outside of regular business hours, including weekends.
