The Indigenous Recruitment Specialist is an integral part of the Sanya’k̓ula Team (Indigenous Recruitment & Employee Experience). This role involves offering specialized services tailored to Indigenous needs for various partners, including hiring managers, Talent Acquisition, Compensation & Classification teams, as well as Indigenous job seekers, Indigenous communities, and related organizations such as post-secondary institutions and employment centers. These services are grounded in a practical understanding of Indigenous-specific anti-racism, Cultural Safety & Humility, with the overarching goal of increasing Indigenous representation in the healthcare sector and fostering a thriving Indigenous employee community at PHSA.
What you’ll do
- Recruits Indigenous staff, working closely with Talent Acquisition staff and hiring leaders through methods such as identifying candidate pool, assisting with screening candidates, development of interview questions, participating on interview panels/committees, referencing candidates and providing recommendations on offer.
- Develops and maintains an active and passive Indigenous candidate pool to help identify and source qualified candidates locally, and nationally through the development and maintenance of relationships with individual candidates, Indigenous communities and organizations, as well as post-secondary institutions.
- Assists in internal/external recruitment initiatives for the PHSA including participating in job fairs and college/high school visits. Liaises with senior staff participants ensuring the promotional and marketing materials are developed and available, and booths and table displays are prepared.
- Provides guidance and assistance to Indigenous candidates seeking employment with PHSA on issues such how to obtain registration to work in British Columbia. Including the creation and delivering of workshops, online or in person, and in collaboration with the other Talent Acquisition teams.
- Build and nurture partnerships with Indigenous communities and related organizations. Act as a bridge between PHSA and these communities to foster positive relationships, share information, and create opportunities for collaboration and support. Includes social media and careers newsletter management, as well as external website management as needed in collaboration with the Recruitment coordinator and manager.
- Stay updated on Indigenous-specific anti-racism, Cultural Safety & Humility, trauma-informed practices, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles, as well as relevant human resource issues and processes. Continuously deepen understanding of these topics to provide informed guidance and support.
What you bring
Qualifications
- A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources and 5 to 7 years of experience with Indigenous Recruitment with working knowledge of standard human resource policies and practices and related employment legislation. Lived experience as an Indigenous person and a deep understanding of Indigenous Specific Anti Racism, White Supremacy and the unique challenges faced by Indigenous job seekers in the healthcare sector is essential.
- The candidate must possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to build and nurture relationships with Indigenous communities and partners and the ability to skillfully speak to the Indigenous experience to non-Indigenous colleagues and partners. Proficiency in using related equipment, such as HR information systems, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, social media, and internet tools, is required.
- Furthermore, the candidate should demonstrate the ability to analyze and resolve problems effectively within an Indigenous Specific Anti-Racism and Cultural Safety & Humility framework. They should have a demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and develop strong and trusting relationships with a strong Relational Practice. The candidate should be comfortable making formal presentations to both internal and external audiences, the candidate should possess excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Understanding of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports. Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Indigenous (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) communities and organizations.

- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time
Salary Range: $72,445 - $104,139 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
