Job description

Who We Are

The work of Good Shepherd is based on a fundamental belief in providing hope and restoring dignity to the most vulnerable members of our community. Our services include emergency food transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth; hospice palliative care; community mental health programs; and supportive housing programs. We are committed to integrating Harm Reduction practices into our programs and to prioritizing the rights, dignity, and choices of those who use substances. By integrating a Harm Reduction framework at Good Shepherd, we can decrease barriers to service and better support some of our community's most marginalized members.

This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Senior Support Services

How You Will Make an Impact

The OT is a key part of client care and should be comfortable working to their full scope of practice, while utilizing a health equity framework. As a part of the interdisciplinary team, the O.T. will support an equity approach in the delivery of O.T. interventions by focusing on the identification, provision and management of resources and strategies to improve health, quality of life and contribute to the empowerment of people so that they can reach their full potential.

The responsibilities of the position are diverse and require a high level of professional skills and judgment. You will be involved in collecting and evaluating client and program data, making necessary revisions to care plans, and maintaining effective communication with team members. The ability to remain calm and focused during periods of high demand is essential. Responsibilities also include documenting treatments, assessments, and client responses, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to privacy legislation.

You are able to effectively communicate health-related information to residents and families, provide health education and counseling, and maintain a good working knowledge of relevant equipment and materials. You will ensure follow-up with community agencies post-discharge as required.

The role involves providing leadership and coaching to other staff members, including personal support workers, occupational therapist/physiotherapist assistants, students, and volunteers, to enhance their skills in delivering quality care.

Collaboration with other community service providers and advocacy is naturally expected, and you will orient new staff, assist in staff training, and participate in annual performance reviews. You are willing to work rotating shifts as scheduled by the Program Manager and perform other duties as directed.
