General Accountabilities:
Assist in the creation of a model of power system components in an offline database to be used in an Energy Management System (EMS). Assets include: familiarity of the bulk electricity system of the province of Ontario, symbology within an electrical schematic diagram.
Assist in the coordinating the update of the power system model and displays of the energy management system used in a control centre by system operators.
Assist in the development of scripts for querying databases, as well as text based data files. This requires familiarity with script programming, especially Perl.
With a focus on the Energy Management System (EMS) platform, provide prompt and efficient technical support to users of applications and databases to ensure the efficient daily operation of transmission (Tx) operating tools and systems.
Following established procedures involving Security Systems Management and Configuration Change Management, ensure that applications and databases used at the control centers are built and maintained in strict compliance with applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements.
Maintain OT Operations applications, databases and systems to support business processes and ensure secure, stable operation. Assist with deployment of software, hardware, and communications systems and integration of operating tools with business processes.
Ensure systems are operated in accordance with established security practices.
Assist in performing and coordinating software changes, upgrades, user testing, and training.
Ensure compliance with quality control procedures and plans.
Apply regular maintenance patches and conduct testing during annual software patch activities.
Assist with troubleshooting of issues with configuration files and software binaries.
Monitor application/system metrics and status of supported operating tools, and produce reports to ensure ongoing performance, stability, and security of Tx operating tools. Assist with implementation of enhancements to provide additional functionality, improved reliability/maintainability and problem correction.
Maintain and operate multiple environments for use in development, testing, training, and live/backup production operations.
Use software version control tools and follow established software build processes to build, test and deploy software, database, and display releases.
Assist in development and testing of interfaces to monitor and control application and system functions.
Use the OT Operations IT Service Management (ITSM) platform to develop operational reports and follow established process control procedures to manage incidents, changes, and problems.
Create/maintain configuration items (CIs) within the OT Operations Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
Assist with development of Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) data quality validation criteria and execute central-site synchrophasor software testing procedures.
Contribute to application/database design and development, to help OT Operations data/system/applications/tools teams ensure secure, stable production operations at the OGCC and ISOC.
Help develop and document application/database disaster recovery (DR) plans for core operating platforms.
Execute projects and assist project teams involved in upgrades and enhancements of supported Tx/Dx systems and operating tools.
Coordinate remote and onsite technical support by third-party vendor personnel and facilitate purchase and maintenance of software licenses.
Work with vendors, consultants, and cross-functional internal teams to help assess, design, and test standard products available within the core EMS / Modeling software suite. Help update existing software to displace existing custom code with standard product functionality, or convert existing custom code to suit new EMS software architecture.
Assist with updates to the EMS application roadmap to reflect EMS sustainment / enhancements / upgrades.
Work with technical mentors and coaches to advance individual professional development.
Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
Eductaion :
Requires 4-year university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
Technical knowledge in use of an offline modeling system, specifically knowledge of the GE Network Model Manager and GE Source.
Technical knowledge of EMS software and systems, specifically knowledge of the GE Energy Management System.
Familiarity with Control Room operations and processes.
Knowledge of computer technology and equipment configurations, operating systems and application programming to develop, support, troubleshoot, and optimize system-level software and scripts.
Understanding of the ITIL framework and experience working with Change Management, Knowledge Management, Incident Management, and Problem Management processes.
Familiarity with Agile methodology and experience using Kanban boards.
Familiarity with test management platform.
Familiarity with software release and sustainment processes involving database updates and display changes.
Knowledge of databases and experience with data analysis and report preparation.
Knowledge of on-premise computer technology, equipment configurations and operating systems.
Knowledge of application structure, routing, security, and resiliency.
Knowledge of application authentication and authorization methods.
