Job description
EMB Management Ltd. located at 8525 Baxter Place, #103a, Burnaby, BC, V5A 4V7, is seeking to hire a welding inspector focused on inspecting and evaluating the quality and safety of welding works in various industrial settings. This position demands extensive knowledge and proficiency in welding processes, standards, and inspection methods to ensure compliance with specific codes, standards, and contractual requirements. The salary is $45.00 per hour working an average of 40 hours per week. This is a full-time, year-round positions. Benefits include DCPP 1-3% employer matched pension plan (mandatory minimum is 1%); 3 weeks vacation, 100% employer-paid extended health and dental, life insurance, and AD&D, Discretionary annual bonus and company cellphone. We require candidates who have a minimum of 8 years of experience in welding inspection or a related technical field. Please note that this position is required to travel up to 75% of work time.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed visual inspections of welding works at various stages (pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld).
- Apply non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, including ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant testing, to assess weld quality.
- Interpret and evaluate inspection and NDT results based on applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
- Enforce quality assurance protocols and procedures in welding projects.
- Generate and maintain comprehensive inspection reports and records, noting compliance and identifying any discrepancies or defects.
- Review and assess welding procedures, specifications, and instructions for industry-standard compliance.
- Prepare welding procedure specifications (WPS) and procedure qualification records (PQR).
- Document process controls, welder qualifications, and project-specific welding data.
- Generate regular reports on welding activities, challenges, and advancements.
- Oversee welding processes for adherence to safety regulations and guidelines.
- Advise on safe welding practices and proper use of protective equipment.
- Maintain current knowledge of industry regulations, codes, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to discuss inspection outcomes and provide technical guidance.
- Effectively communicate inspection findings to relevant parties, including contractors, engineers, and management.
- Participate in project meetings and reviews, offering recommendations for enhancing welding quality and efficiency.
- Mentor and oversee junior inspectors and technical staff.
- Conduct training on welding inspection techniques and quality control processes.
- Engage in continuous education and professional development to stay abreast of new welding technologies and inspection methods.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in welding inspection or a related technical field.
- Certification as Mechanical Technician required.
- Valid CWB Welding Inspector Level 2 (Mandatory), AWS/CWI Certified Welding Inspector and ASNT Visual Test Inspector – Pressure Equipment
- Must have experience working as an ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
- Experience with ASME Design, Fabrication, Materials, Welding, and NDT of boilers
- Experience with Dimensional Control
- Proficiency in various NDT methods and a solid understanding of welding processes and equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of welding codes, standards and specifications in special API 1104 and CSA Z662.
- Demonstrating knowledge of welding procedures, metallurgy, defects (cause and effect), repair, principles of quality assurance and quality control, engineering and construction drawings, preparation of nondestructive testing inspection plans from construction drawings, stress relieving, and new welding technology.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and safety.
