LINC Regional ESL Literacy and Care for Newcomer Children

Position Location: Steinbach Campus  (70km outside of Winnipeg, MB)

Part-Time, Term Position Available

DUTIES

Reporting to the Chair, LINC Regional ESL Literacy and Care for Newcomer Children (CNC), the Childcare Assistant will assist and support the settlement of young immigrant and refugee children and their families through the use of Childminding Advisory and Support (CMAS) and Positive Parenting techniques in a multicultural, child-centered setting. The candidate will follow CNC requirements, complete the orientation with the Supervisor, plan appropriate activities for children in accordance with the written program philosophy, welcome and interact with newcomer children and their parents, provide activities and experiences that meet the individual developmental needs of the children, set up and take down equipment and other items used in the program, assist with day-to-day cleaning and organization of the rooms, maintain records (including a daily log, a child profile, a diapering chart (infant/ toddler), attendance and session management forms), inspect the CNC space for safety issues, seek corrective actions according to procedures, alert the supervisor if there are any concerns, work with team members to create a positive environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Child Care Assistant certificate or provincially recognized equivalent classification as an Early Childhood Educator or eligibility to apply for the certificate upon hire

• Knowledge of Child Care Assistant best practices and knowledge of the CNC Model, as well as occasional, short-term, long-term, and combined care in a multi-cultural childcare setting

• Familiar with challenges that newcomer families settling in Canada face

• Ability to deliver quality programming in a multicultural setting

• Experience working with children from 6 months to 5 years of age in a multi-cultural childcare setting

• Valid Standard First Aid and Level C CPR or completion within one month of employment

• Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to speak another language other than English (i.e. Hindi, Spanish, German, Arabic, Jabi)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada

• This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends

• This position may be required to travel

• This position may be required to work throughout the academic year including the summer months

• This position may be required to work overtime

• Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Persons Sector Check

• Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check

• Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL)
