Job description
The City of Courtenay invites applications for the temporary positions of "Summer Camp Activity Leaders (1, 2 and 3)”.
Summer Camp Activity Leaders 1, 2 & 3 are responsible for the development and implementation of recreational early years, children and youth day camps. Summer camp programs consist of a variety of both indoor and outdoor activities, including: games, STEAM, cooking, swimming at the outdoor pool, hiking, sports and field trips.
Activity Leader 1
Completion of grade 9 or equivalent
Activity Leader 2
Completion of grade 11 or equivalent
Activity Leader 3
Diploma/degree or currently enrolled in post-secondary education preferred or equivalent
Class 4 driver’s license preferred (Activity Leader 3)
All Levels
Criminal Records Clearance
Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (or willing to obtain)
High 5 Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (or willing to obtain)
Experience leading games, songs, crafts, drama and other recreational activities
Experience with children ages 3-18
Have a strong commitment to professionalism
Possess passion and enthusiasm for children and youth and a willingness to learn
Ability to build healthy relationships with participants and promote positive values and recreational benefits
Ability to lift 50lbs
Ability to participate in active recreation programming
Willingness to swim on a weekly basis
Experience instructing and/or assisting in the instruction of sports programs in a competitive and/or recreation environment (Activity Leader 3)
Wage range is between $20.00 and $26.00 per hour, depending on experience. There are various full and part-time positions; hours range between 7:45 am and 5:15 pm; Monday to Friday. Ideal start date of June 17.
