Job description
Majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles all lie in the picturesque Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Located on Vancouver Island, the CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 80,000 within its 4 distinct municipalities and 9 electoral areas. Just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities.
Due to a retirement, the Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for the Manager - Parks Planning & Stewardship position in the Parks & Trails Division within the Operations Department. The anticipated start date is June 10, 2024.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Parks & Trails Division, the Manager – Parks Planning & Stewardship is responsible for managing the planning, acquisition, and stewardship strategy for parks and trails within the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). This includes the preparation and implementation of parks and trails master plans, management plans, concept plans, and site plans; leading land acquisition for parks and trails and identifying related strategic opportunities and priorities; and promoting environmental/land stewardship and natural/cultural resource management through stakeholder partnerships, community engagement, and policy development.

Guaranteed 35 hours of work per week, with some variance in the normal work schedule / some evening and weekend work as required by operational requirements. This position is eligible for flex time.
The CVRD offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. The salary range is $107,924.87 -$126,173.79 (2024 Salary). In addition, a comprehensive benefits package including extended health / dental / insurance, pension, and paid vacation are also offered.
