ABOUT THE ROLE
An exciting and challenging opportunity within TransAlta’s Data & Analytics team. Reporting to the Manager Data & Analytics, the Data Management Lead will be responsible for the overall leadership and guidance of the data management team, and collaborate with various stakeholders, such as data owners, data stewards, data analysts, and data consumers, to provide guidance and support on data management issues and opportunities.
In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for defining and enforcing data policies and standards, promoting data literacy and best practices, and ensuring data quality and integrity throughout the data lifecycle, as well as lead the development and implementation of data governance, data literacy, and data quality initiatives across the organization
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Own and collaborate on a long-term data strategy for the organization encompassing analytics, data management, and business intelligence alongside the broader data & analytics team and leadership
Build a practice of data management that creates a mature business discipline around data
Create data governance training and awareness programs to increase data literacy and foster a data-driven culture across the organization
Advise and assist data owners, data stewards, data analysts, and data consumers on data management best practices and solutions
Stay on top of data management trends, technologies, and regulations, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
Work alongside the data analytics teams to bring data management practices to life and showcase tangible results to your business partners

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
Bachelor's degree in data management, information systems, computer science, or related field
Minimum 10 years of experience in data management, data governance, data quality, or related field
Certification in data governance, data quality, or data management is an asset
Proven knowledge and experience in data governance frameworks, methodologies, and tools
Understanding of advanced analytics practices (data engineering, data science, etc.)
Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex data concepts to various audiences
Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
