Position Description:

We seek qualified and energetic candidates with engineering backgrounds to work with a collaborative, high-performing team while keeping safety paramount. The interested candidates must have a good understanding of engineering and project management principles and a strong desire to grow professionally in these areas. We need individuals to develop and execute our continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on engineering and project management best practices. You will work with a community of engineers who plan, execute, and deliver capital projects to support our assets to manufacture different grades of Steel in our Hamilton, ON, plants. In your daily work, you will develop projects from inception to completion using ArcelorMittal CIPM-2 Project Management Guidelines, tools, techniques, technical scope, work breakdown structure development, budget estimation and scheduling.

Overall Responsibility:

You will identify problems and develop implementable and cost-effective technical solutions by translating them into projects. The successful candidate will leverage their engineering knowledge and Project Management skills to deliver projects on scope, schedule, and within budget independently and collaboratively. The successful candidates will continuously develop their engineering and project management expertise while working with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Accountabilities:  

• Fulfill the Health and Safety responsibilities as required by regulatory and company policy.
• Project Manager capable of leading small to medium projects from inception to completion.
• Develop projects through project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring & control and closeout processes aligned with ArcelorMittal Capital Investment Project Methodology (CIPM-2).
• The development of Work Break Down Structure (WBS), Cost Braek Down Structure (CBS), budget estimates and monthly forecasting.
• Development of project investment files, i.e. alternatives selection, justification, and cost benchmarking.
• Get approval and deliver projects per approved scope, schedule, and budget.
• Coordinate procurement with purchasing, including expediting, FAT, delivery, and contract management.
• Plan and define all required construction activities, including constructability, cranes, lifting plans, shutdown planning/scheduling, commissioning, and quality management plans.
• For each project, complete risk and opportunity assessment throughout the project's life.
• Manage all project scope, schedule, and budget changes relative to the investment file utilizing the PCR process.
• Conduct regular meetings with the project team (engineering, vendors, manufacturing, procurement) and issue meeting minutes with action items.
• Compile monthly project status reports and report out proactively as appropriate or when requested by the management.
• Captured lessons learned and performed timely project closeouts.

Qualifications and Experience:

The following are  required:

• An engineering degree with 5+ years of Project management experience.
• Excellent project management and leadership skills to effectively manage diversified teams.
• Results-oriented, proven self-starter with advanced problem-solving skills
• Outstanding time management skills with the ability to multi-task and work on many projects with competing priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, report writing and oral presentation skills.  
• A continuous improvement mindset for personal development and corporate. Sustainability.
• Well-developed skills in MS Sites, including major Project Management applications.
• Able to work in a group environment and independently with minimum supervision.

The following are considered  assets:

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in the Province of Ontario.
• A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• Good to have experience in the heavy or Steel industry.

Work Environment:  

Mostly office environment with frequent plant/site visits.

Hours of Work:

Daytime, Monday to Friday (8 hours per day, plus lunch), with occasional extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads.
