Description:

The Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County provides support services to women and girls over 16 years of age who have experienced or are experiencing some form of sexual violence. We also offer support to family members, partners, and the community. We provide a 24-hour confidential support and crisis line, information and community referrals, advocacy, volunteer training and opportunities, workshops and community outreach, information for youth, and more.

We are recruiting for a Communications Coordinator. This is a full-time position working 35 hours per week.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator has the following responsibilities:

Coordinate the public education, public relations, and media presence of the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County
Enhance the centre’s ability to communicate with survivors of sexual violence through a variety of mediums
Develop and maintain the centre’s website
Provide direct support to women survivors of sexual violence
Participate in agency fundraising, social action work, and other agency activities
Coordinate the involvement of volunteers in public education work
Participate in community networks, representing the centre
Provide office coverage, including phone response
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The Communications Coordinator will possess the following skills:

Post-secondary education in a social services field
At least two years of work experience in the field of violence against women, with a priority on direct support to women
Experience with a feminist analysis of oppression and experience working within an anti-oppression framework
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
The ability to work as part of a team and independently
The ability to work with volunteers to further the objectives of the centre
Strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, publishing software, and website development
The ability to develop programming from inception to community participation
A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
Be able to obtain and provide a criminal reference check including a vulnerable sector check
Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
