Job description
Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a Service Electrician at our location in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations, troubleshoot electrical issues, diagnose problems, and implement effective solutions and collaborate with other team members to complete projects on time and within budget.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Interpret and work from electrical blueprints, schematics (HVAC schematics in particular), and diagrams to execute projects accurately
- Complete daily vehicle checks to ensure proper function and prevent malfunctions
- Complete detailed Hazard Assessments before every job
- Adhere to Black & McDonald safety procedures and create a secure working environment
- Manage and organize work orders, ensuring timely completion of projects and service calls within specified deadlines
- Complete and submit time electronically each day
- Assist estimators in quoting process when needed
- Coordinate subcontractors and rentals as needed
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their requirements and provide professional recommendations
- Address customer inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally
- Able to create detailed material lists and using quality procurement practices when purchasing
- Ensure the quality of work by conducting inspections and testing electrical systems
- Implement best practices to meet and exceed industry standards
- Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices/ students, in a work safe environment

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Journeyperson, 5+ years' experience in electrical trade
- Experience in service work would be considered an asset.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Red Seal Electrical Certification
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Secret Security Clearance, as well as other site-specific clearances.
- Experience using mobile technologies would be an asset.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to read and work from mechanical schematics, electrical schematics, line drawings, etc.
- Strong mechanical ability and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to abide by after hours on call-schedule
- Flexible when it comes to regular scheduled days in the case emergency calls arise
- Ability to work independently
