Your new company  

Hays Specialist Recruitment has partnered with a large electrical company who are seeking to hire an Internal Controls Advisor to support their team for a 3-6 month contract. You will work full time from their SW Calgary location to M-F within standard business hours. You will be working 3 days a week in the office (Tue, Wed, Thurs) and 2 days at WFH (Mon + Fri). 

Your new role  

You will be reporting to the Supervisor of Compliance and Finance and will be responsible for internal processes and control under SOX. You will be documenting, recommending solutions, and ensuring ongoing compliance. You will also manage testing of internal controls related to CFO sub-certification.

Primary duties include:

• Development and maintenance of processes to strengthen controls and SOX.
• Assistant finance and business units with updating and maintaining documentation - flowcharts, risk controls matrices, etc.
• Assist with design of internal controls.
• Develop testing procedures to support review of internal contracts
• Develop management, review contracts and recommend appropriate contracts
• Collaborate with process owners to build knowledge.
• Identify and make recommendations to strengthen controls.
• Partner with internal audit to identify deficiencies

What you'll need to succeed  

• You will have PCOB controls experience – either have experience going through a 1st year US-SOX audit or a 1st year US-SOX controls implementation.
• You will have experience reporting within a control framework and looking at control deficiencies.
• A degree with a major in accounting, CPA designation
• A strong working knowledge of US GAAP
