Location: Fredericton/Oromocto, NB
Position: Child and Youth Care Worker
Hours: 40 Hours Per Week (8 Hour Shifts)
Compensation: $18-23 Per Hour
Job Description : Monuwehkahal Homes, founded by Oromocto First Nation, operates homes for the community’s children and youth in need of alternative housing solutions. This position provides a market-leading compensation package – including full medical, dental, and pension benefits after a period of probation – but also the resources and training necessary for you to thrive in your role. Signing bonuses may be available for candidates with previous experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide direct care and supervision of the children or youth within the home and ensure that each child’s care plan is followed
• Ensure that a supportive environment within the home is always maintained, including through actively listening to the children, taking an interest in their interests, participating in activities, and generally helping them reach their full potential
• Maintain a “role model” status within the home through consistently demonstrating compassion, kindness, patience, and professionalism, along with utilizing positive reinforcement to build up each child’s confidence in themselves and their abilities
• Monitor the children or youth within the home, provide assistance with daily activities, and successfully complete the transition to next shift staff (i.e., updating them on any issues that arose, helping ensure that the children or youth are ready for school, etc.)
• Maintain an orderly home through participating in regular cleaning, food preparation, laundry, and other household-related activities as needed
• Communicate effectively with co-workers and complete all necessary reporting, such as filling in daily status reports, in an accurate, timely, and reliable manner
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience and/or Education in Nursing, Home Care, Education Assistant, Early Childhood Education, Human Services, or similar would be an asset
• Preferred minimum of one year of work experience in a similar role with a focus on child or youth care (preference may be given to those who have previously worked specifically with First Nation children or youth)
• Experience completing reporting documentation (i.e., incident reports, intake forms, daily status reports, etc.), preferred but not mandatory
• Demonstrated knowledge of conflict de-escalation tactics, trauma-informed care principles, and strengths-based care principles or the desire to learn these tactics and principles
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated history of working collaboratively with co-workers
• Willingness to work in a dynamic, challenging work environment
• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
• Ability to successfully pass a social development check (will be done in house)
• Valid driver’s license and driver’s license abstract (preferred but not mandatory)
• Willingness to sign a non-disclosure agreement
• CPR certification or willingness to obtain
