Job description
The maintenance mechanic will carry out repair and preventive maintenance activities. This includes rapid diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair and parts replacement for flat steel roll slitting lines, packaging equipment, banding tools and hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems. p>
What you will do:
- Ensure the maintenance and repair of machines, equipment, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems, while respecting programming priorities, safety, quality, productivity and reliability requirements.
- Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of maintenance workers on a daily basis to ensure that orders can be fulfilled in compliance with customer and service requirements.
- Develop, implement and maintain schedules and procedures for preventive maintenance programs in coordination with relevant departments and maintain records/documents.
- Inform the programming department and production department daily of the required repair time if it takes more than 24 hours; Systematically record equipment downtime and repairs carried out.
- Research, negotiate and administer contracts for the supply of materials, parts and services for maintenance, including annual inspection of material handling equipment.
- Plan, organize, transfer and install machinery and equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions without compromising safety.
- Report daily and update equipment requiring preventive maintenance, repairs or replacement of parts. Develop necessary reporting forms and documentation.
- Plan, track and manage the maintenance budget.
- Identify and implement measures to continuously improve working methods, systems, productivity, safety and quality of service.
- Provide any other assistance requested by management.
- Be able to work staggered hours to meet production requirements, if applicable.
What you need:
- 5 to 7 years of experience in a steel processing or steel plant environment is preferred.
- Experience with hydraulic systems and heavy equipment is essential.
- Welding skills with Mig and Tig welders are essential.
- Knowledge of forklift and overhead crane repair is an asset.
- Good knowledge of health and safety law, regulations and products.
- Proficiency in oral, written and reading English.
- Personal qualities include cooperation, ethics, open-mindedness, observation and tenacity.
- Fast learner, team spirit, initiative and ability to meet deadlines.
- Computer skills, including knowledge of MS Outlook and Excel, are required.
