Our client is a registered Canadian charity and one of the largest foundations in the world. It works with visionary organizations to advance education and financial inclusion to enable young people in Africa and Indigenous youth in Canada to access dignified and fulfilling work.
Established in 2006 through the generosity of the client when it became a public company, the Foundation is an independent organization separate from the company, with offices in Toronto, Kigali, Accra, Nairobi, Kampala, Lagos, Dakar, and Addis Ababa.
To support the ambitious goals of the Foundation in perpetuity, the Foundation Board determined that a separate investment management arm is needed and embarked on creating the client’s organization. This newly created entity will create and execute an investment strategy by building a team of investment professionals, while aligning with the Foundation’s strategic goals.

About the Opportunity A unique opportunity to be involved in starting up a world class organization that will have global impact. You will be involved in establishing a target operating model for the Finance and Operations Team. You will develop a deep understanding of all costs that drive our business and assist in creating a cost-conscious culture. You will have accountability to assist teams in executing the procure to pay process and ensure all costs are captured in the general ledger.
- Becoming a business advisor and subject matter expert for all costs of the client
- Prepare Monthly Management Reporting pack for the client’s Executive Team
- Advise teams on management of costs and payments instilling a culture of cost consciousness in the organization
- Oversee and support the Employee and Corporate Expense Programs including Corporate Credit Cards and Travel Provider
- End to end oversight over all costs captured in the general ledger ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and completeness
- Management and maintenance of the cost centers and cost categorization in the general ledger
Additionally, you will work closely with teams to prepare budgets, forecasts and planning, ensuring expense and cash flow reporting deadlines to the Foundation are met on a monthly basis. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing forecast reports for the client’s Executive Team. Planning and analysis includes and is not limited to:
- Collaborating with teams to prepare annual Budgets, Workforce Plans and forecasts
- Support compliance with Investment Management Agreement between the client and the Foundation
- Preparation of monthly forecast updates and cost recovery analyses and related reporting to the Foundation
- Support the client’s Leadership Team with the preparation of Board materials and reporting
As part of this role you will also be responsible for people operations and will assist with payroll and benefits administration, understanding and maintaining the client workforce plan, and working with teams to facilitate a smooth and efficient recruitment process.
- Specific accountabilities include and are not limited to:
- Onboarding new employees and benefits enrolment and administration
- Preparation and administration of payroll for the client’s employees
- Assisting teams with recruitment activities including job posting preparation,
- Maintaining the applicant tracking system and ensuring new roles are maintained on LinkedIn and the client’s company website
This is a unique role that will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to wear multiple hats, get exposure to a variety of areas and capabilities and become a trusted business advisor for teams across the client’s foundation.
About You - CPA designated or towards the end
- 5-8 years of experience (ideally 6-7 years experience)
- Experience in the asset management space
- Exposure to process excellence
Salary Range $110,000 - $130,000/year
