EXPATRIATE POSITION BASED IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
GENERAL MANAGER - FORESTRY OPERATIONS

Responsibilities
- Leads and manages the setting up, development and sustainable management of an extensive greenfield forest carbon (ARR) reforestation project
- Leads the development and management of a sustainable project business plan – forest management and project economics
- Leads the identification and development of a project team
- Leads the development and management of sustainable positive community relations
- Supports the identification, assessment, and design of the project
- Supports the development of in country relationships with influential organizations and individuals including government, international organizations & private sector entities with specific emphasis on those that impact the project
Experience
- Minimum 12+ years senior forestry (silviculture) operations management
- Firsthand experience in setting up and developing greenfield forestry operations is desirable – including site assessments, infrastructure (nursery, roads, buildings etc) development, administration and planning, and implementation
- Congo basin forestry on site experience is desirable
- Related agriculture (tree crops) experience would also be considered
- Strong background, and belief, in sustainable community relationship development
- Has an applied science backed by financial logic approach
- Used to working in isolated and difficult work environments
- Highly proficient in use of computers, in particular use of email, Microsoft Excel and Word
Education
- Formal qualification (3+ years) in forestry / related agriculture
- A post graduate business/management qualification would be desirable
- Must be able to work in English with native and non-native English speakers
- Fluency in French is essential
