Job description
The Quality Manager under the direction of the VP of Operational Excellence is integral for promoting a safe and healthy work environment within the manufacturing facility, and for ensuring manufactured products meet all standards of quality, reliability, and performance with an overarching goal of eliminating product deficiencies and improving client satisfaction.
This includes and is not limited to developing and implementing quality strategies and regulations by assessing potential risks, ensuring ISO and other regulatory compliance and provides recommendations, managing the day-to-day activities of a team of material handlers who check, test, and inspect raw materials, goods in process and finished goods.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and direct a high-performance Quality Team that guides the production to produce perfectly quality compliant product, to reduce internal and external Quality failures.
- Implement robust quality systems by devising and establishing BRC’s quality procedures, standards, and specifications in concert with best practices and ISO-9000.
- Drive continuous improvement within operations through lean manufacturing techniques.
- Identify root cause of quality issues and execution of product quality improvements through preventive or corrective actions.
- Interface with Production Supervisors, and Production Manager for quality-related tasks, audits, and incidents, to collect and summarize customer quality data to drive improvement.
- Interface with suppliers for Quality related tasks, audits, and incidents.
- Coordinate the inspection activities of material handlers and work in conjunction with other Quality Team members to collect data from the teams and evaluate the data to give direction on what needs to be done to produce customer quality compliant products.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to health & safety, quality, and compliance requirements on an ongoing basis.
- Ensure harmonious worker and management relationships by adhering to BRC Policies and by providing recognition and coaching to staff on a timely and consistent basis throughout the shift.
- Provide Quality engineering support for R&D, marketing, and operations for the development, modification, and qualification of new products and existing released products.
- Ensure proper documentation of processes exists and is being followed.
- Reporting Up of Quality error distribution by preparing activity and progress reports to recurring problems, either with quality of product or the reliability of testing procedures.
- Work with Engineering and Operations to form a cohesive team, quick to solve issues.
- Communicate professionally with Key External Contacts including External Vendors, Contractors, Suppliers and/or Customers.
- Ensures overall Quality Compliance by leading the definitions, documentations, and quality controls maintained by the Quality Team per Product specific and general Quality standards.
- Completes the definition of:
- o General Quality Procedures.
- o Quality Control workplace and environment.
- o Critical Quality Points on Products, when required.
- Supervision of Check Sheets and Check Lists for the Quality Inspector’s support through the workers.
- Executes and follows-up on Corrective and Preventative Action Plans.
- Audits concepts such as Quality Control Tool Management, Quality Control Jig Management, and Master Sample Management.
- Organizes Quality for Production Training on quality control processes, including acceptance/rejection criteria, quality concerns, or any possible health and safety concerns.
- Coaches the Quality Assurance Team and when required, the Assembly team to ensure consistency with quality control expectations and procedures.
- Supervision of Department specific Quality Visualization Boards and Product Failure database maintenance.
- Execute and oversee continuous improvement initiatives and improvement processes for the development and recommendation of changes to existing methods and systems to increase the accuracy, efficiency, and responsiveness of the department.
- Participate in ISO external audits.
- Participate in Industry BIFMA Levels audit, processes, training, implementation.
- Use + wear all prescribed PPE.
- Does not operate any equipment or device or thing that would endanger himself/herself/themself or any other worker.
- Only operate equipment for which worker orientation and training have been provided.
Requirements

- Certification as a Quality Manager (CQM), Quality Engineer (CQE), or Quality auditor certified (CQA) certification will be an asset.
- 2+ years’ experience in a Quality Management capacity, in the furniture or wood manufacturing/warehousing environment or similar Technical Product field environment.
- Previous experience as a Quality Control Manager/ Quality Assurance Engineer/ Senior Quality Control Officer and/ or in Production.
- Expert Understanding of ISO 9000 standard, internal audit and project management skills.
- Outstanding management ability by showing extremely high levels of integrity and an outstanding role model to his/her team and to all production staff.
- Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes.
- Strong leadership skills, excellent communicator , and strong coaching skills.
- Expertly fashions both simple and complex Quality Assurance systems and procedures.
Work efficiently in cross functional teams and promote accountability at all levels.

- Ability to lift and handle loads +/- 50lbs.
