Overview

The Fire Department with the City of Chilliwack, a growing and vibrant community of 100,000 located 100 kilometers east of Vancouver, is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Assistant Fire Chief – Training/Operations.

Are you the one we’re looking for?
As a key member of the Fire Department’s senior management team, and reporting to the Fire Chief, you manage all aspects of the Fire Department’s training program including staff development for 45 career and 135 Paid on-Call firefighters and fire officers. Your excellent interpersonal skills support you as you supervise two training officers and you develop, coordinate and implement innovative, practical and effective training programs. You have at least 10 years of fire suppression experience and 5 years of experience as a training officer in a composite fire department. As the department’s occupational health & safety officer you coordinate and provide leadership for all aspects of the department’s occupational health and safety programs.

You act as a rotating, operational Duty Chief and as a Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner. You are required to work flexible hours to meet the training and operations requirements of our composite fire department.

You have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business or fire science, or you have an acceptable combination of post-secondary education and experience. You have completed, or are currently enrolled in the Executive Chief Fire Officer (ECFO) program. You are a capable leader with excellent employee relations, budgeting and planning skills. You have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with demonstrated report writing and public speaking abilities. You work independently within a team environment and have demonstrated your expertise in public relations and team building skills.

You possess extensive knowledge, training and practical experience in emergency disaster management and the Incident Command System. Your extensive knowledge of and experience with FDM software supports your data management and analysis responsibilities.

The position requires you to have a current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License and to reside within the City of Chilliwack.
