In your role as a Capital Planning Coordinator, at The North West Company (NWC), you will provide support to the process development and standards enforcement for Capital Planning and Project Management processes. This role will facilitate communications, develop and maintain planning tools and monitor capital spend against approved budgets. You will work with other departments to develop asset lifecycle reporting to inform capital plan requirements and work with applicable resources to monitor and report upon quarterly capital forecasting for approved projects. You will work with the Senior Manager Capital Planning to escalate budget variances and unplanned capital requests, as well as prepare reporting for senior management.
This role will also support strategic and special projects, where applicable. This may include planning process enhancements associated with Store Planning and Construction, and support coordination and communications for Store Opening projects.

Your Role: - Prepare planning documents for stakeholder review and input using current year capital plan and previously recorded forward-looking requests.
- Triage capital requests from stakeholders and incorporate into existing planning tools.
- Coordinate the committee who assesses requests and develops high-level forecasts to build the capital plan.
- Maintain the multi-year capital planning tool.
- Prepare a summary of capital requests for special-ship pre-approvals supporting winter road projects.
- Prepare preliminary-approved capital plans for upcoming fiscal year in the approved Finance templates.
- Coordinate communications with Construction and other budget category owners to develop cash flow forecasts for current fiscal year, and next fiscal year for ongoing projects.
- Triage unplanned capital requests and maintain database of requests.
- Work with Construction to align upon capital overhead forecasting assumptions and prepare documents used to propose allocations by project (quarterly and fiscal year end).
- Prepare tools and communications for fiscal year end accruals.
- Facilitate freight reconciliation with various Construction, Maintenance and Housing teams to reconcile freight charges against capital projects.
- Prepare monthly reporting for Senior Manager PMO and Capital Planning, VP Facilities & Store Planning and VP Store Development & Real Estate on current cash flow trends to facilitate senior management decisions on prioritizing unplanned capital requests.
- Work with Facilities Maintenance to obtain Maintenance & Repairs expenditures which may help influence how capital is prioritized by Operations stakeholders.
- Participate in regular Post Mortem workshops to incorporate enhancements to all Capital Planning process.
Desired Skills & Experience: - Knowledge of Project Management methodologies and certification in project management, an asset.
- Experience in a construction environment an asset.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Critical thinking skills required to evaluate requests.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of individuals in a wide range of situations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize them while adhering to strict schedule deadlines.
- Predominantly working in the corporate office (open office environment), with the ability to work from home as required.
Must be willing and able to travel up to 10 days per year.
