Job Summary and Requirements

The CMHA-YT Family and Youth Counselor reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for providing mental health services to children, youth and families. The Family and Youth Counselor provides direct client care including individual assessment, family and group counselling and referrals to other service providers and agencies within the community. The Family and Youth Counselor collaborates with other community services to provide a comprehensive, person and family centered approach to care and works with the Family Programming Coordinator and other members of the team to deliver education, programs and training as identified.

Essential Qualifications

• Master’s degree in psychology, counselling or related discipline;
• Certification or qualifying status with a counseling regulatory body;
• Minimum of two years experience in a counselling, case management or other clinical role;
• Knowledge related to child development, attachment and the effects of trauma on youth;
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, both internally and externally;
• Demonstrated competence in cultural safety and works effectively with individuals with various cultural backgrounds;
• Knowledge of community outreach, along with knowledge of the mental health system in Yukon;
  
• Skills, knowledge and experience delivering family counseling and parenting groups to parents/caregivers;
• Excellent computer skills, including specialized and personal computer systems and databases, Internet, and software applications, particularly Microsoft Office;
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Desired Qualifications

• The ability to speak French is an asset;
• Standard First Aid Certification;
• First Nations 101 Certification.

Conditions of Employment

• Must complete a Vulnerable Sector Security Clearance;
• Flexible working hours, including the possibility of some evening and weekend hours.
