Position Information
This position covers acute in-patient units, including but not limited to the Transitional Care Unit.
Rotation/Shifts
Days, including weekends, 8 hour shifts. For information purposes only - The Hospital reserves the right to change.
Basic Requirements
- Formal training with a 2-year Community College Diploma from a recognized College as a Physiotherapist Assistant (PTA) AND Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) or equivalent;
- Thorough knowledge of wheelchair seating/positioning features and assembly, mobility aid adjustment, mechanical lift and other therapeutic modalities/equipment, self-help devices, safe use of workshop equipment;
- Health and physical condition consistent with lifting, bending, transferring patients and long periods of standing, walking, stair climbing, exposure of hands to hot and cold temperatures;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to motivate others;
- Time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple requests in appropriate manner without constant direct supervision;
- Ability to work and interact effectively in a collaborative, interprofessional team setting;
- Initiative, enthusiasm;
- Attention to detail and demonstrated thoroughness to completing tasks/activities;
- Problem solving abilities and sound judgment;
- Commitment to self-directed learning;
- Adaptable to change according to volume/timing of work;
- Eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent team work skills;
- Awareness of ergonomics principles;
- Experience in seating/positioning and wheelchair adjustments;
- Recent experience with working with cognitively impaired patient;
- Ability to use a sewing machine standard and industrial;
- Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
