WORK ILLUSTRATION:
Reporting to the Manager, Quality and Compliance, the Engineer will provide a wide range of technical services in the development of quality assurance and compliance related programs to ensure the reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the electrical distribution system is maintained. The department is heavily involved in quipment failure investigations and conducts root cause analysts to support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions that contributes to the reliability and safety of the distribution system.
The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and maintains Quality Assurance processes within Toronto Hydro, ensuring that quality issues are effectively prioritized and analyzed as they arise.
- Conduct root cause analysis and investigations on equipment failures, material or process quality issues and identify preventative actions.
- Facilitate discussions to resolve issues arising from equipment failures, material or process quality issues, acting as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders; recommend changes to existing standards (from investigation outcomes), and/or to capital or maintenance programs, to improve quality and/or compliance.
- Collaborates with external suppliers, such as manufacturers and distributors, to ensure quality issues are resolved and actions are taken to prevent reoccurrence.
- Provides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops and/or presents detailed business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices.
- Compares alternative technical/business solutions based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles, and recommends the optimum solution.
- Maintains internal databases and develops various reports as requested by internal groups or Management.
- Resolves concerns or gaps identified through internal and/or external audits.
- Collaborates with various internal departments to streamline and improve compliance and quality assurance related activities.
- Participates on internal committees and project teams as required on a wide variety of business initiatives.
- Supports Senior Management on ad hoc assignments arising from various external committees.
- Participates in special investigations and studies, and prepares reports with findings and recommendations
- Represents Toronto Hydro in external meetings and/or committees
REQUIREMENT:
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
- Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience.
- Must have a valid Class "G" License
- Knowledge in Quality Assurance and Quality Management System is an asset
- Experience with performing root cause analysis and document findings, corrective and preventive actions in an engineering report format.
- Extensive expereince with communicating to stakeholders on complex, technical issues
- Excellent problem solving and analytical ability, as well as organization and planning skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through report writing and delivering presentations.
- Fluent in the application of information technology, such as MS Office, data analysis software and database applicati ons .
- Strong project management skills with the ability to bring projects in on time and on budget.
- Ability to adapt and work effectively through a variety of situations, collaborating with various individuals and groups, and willing to challenge the status quo.
- Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize opportunities for change in support of continuous process improvement.
- Demonstrates versatile leadership; encourages organizational teamwork and collaboration, and takes educated risks to develop innovative solutions.
- Builds strong relationships with various stakeholders. Engage with execution, operation groups, warehouse staff and contractors as part of the equipment failure root cause analysis phase.

- Demonstrates Commitment to Environment, Health and Safety: Acts as a safety leader by incorporating safety and environmental considerations into business decisions and actions.
Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
