About the Opportunity

The Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health are seeking to hire a full-time community surgeon. This position will have its clinical base at the Dartmouth General Hospital (DGH) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. DGH is a regional hospital within the Central Zone of Nova Scotia Health. It is a 187 bed hospital with a catchment area of over 120,000 people. The hospital sees over 350,000 clinical visits and ~ 45,000 acute care visits yearly. Despite its size, DGH has a community feel where health professionals interact personally. The community atmosphere contributes to an optimal work environment and excellent patient care. In the last 3 years, 8 new operating rooms and 3 new endoscopy suites have been opened. At DGH we have a strong foundation and an administration that supports funding for innovation and cutting-edge care. Further expansion of the hospital in the next 5 years is already in planning with over 100 more beds and numerous added services planned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate has Royal College certification in General Surgery or is eligible. Fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery or Colorectal Surgery would be an asset though it is not required. They will be actively involved with medical student and resident training and be capable of taking surgical call. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in Nova Scotia. Remuneration is based on a competitive alternate funding plan.
