Career Development Consultant (Employment Counsellor)
At BGS, our Career Development Consultants main focus is to support our clients to obtain employment. To accomplish this, you will use your demonstrated skills to prepare them for a successful job search and you will support their efforts by providing them with job leads and direct employment placement opportunities from your established employer network.
To be successful in this role, you need to be self-directed and be creative in designing individualized strategies that lead your clients to employment success!
Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct Client Employability Assessments for program suitability and employment readiness
- Coach clients and quickly address concerns that can impact their employment success
- Manage your caseload and accurately input required information using the Mobius client management system
- Help clients develop their job search toolkit: define job interests & goals; prepare effective cover letter(s) and a professional resume; develop confidence in and prepare for job interviews
- Instruct clients in small group workshops & one to one sessions on current job search techniques
- Based on your client needs, target employers and actively promote appropriate jobseekers to them; provide post-employment support to clients & employers
- Engage with community organizations to support client needs
- Maintain administrative/ record keeping requirements accurately and in a timely manner
Qualifications Include:
- Post-Secondary education, or related experience, in career development, social sciences or human services
- Demonstrated experience providing Career Counselling/ Coaching with clients who have varying levels of work experience
- Proven ability to place clients into employment
- Understanding of, and demonstrated application of, the Career Planning process
- Proficiency in the following: job search techniques; employment and job search skills, which includes writing professional résumés and cover letters, performing high impact job interviews, and effective job search skills; instructional design and group instruction; case management
- Able to proactively support clients to obtain employment and to provide required support so that they retain their employment
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal competencies for: a) effective participation in a team b) problem solving and conflict resolution skills c) canvassing employers to find job vacancies and negotiating to place clients in those vacancies, and d) successful management of time, priorities, tasks, change and stress
- Current knowledge of, and ability to research Edmonton’s labour market, industry sectors that are hiring and overall employment trends
- Knowledgeable about available community supports
- Knowledge of Mobius is an asset. Proficiency with current computer applications is required
- Accurate and attention to detail
- Enthusiasm, attention to detail and initiative with a commitment to excel in service delivery
