Position Available:
Medical Simulation Specialist
Position Status: Full Time
Location: 5310 Explorer Drive, Mississauga, ON
Reporting To: Manager, Clinician Education and Development
Hours of Work:
Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Position Summary:
- Works collaboratively with educators and facilitators to operationalize simulations and curriculum, including all aspects of planning, preparation, programming and testing for simulation activities;
- Teaches and orientates educators and facilitators on the safe and effective use of simulation equipment and technology within Ornge education programs;
- Maintain in-house training facilities and equipment, ensure smooth operation of equipment, coordinate and arrange for maintenance and repair work;
- Maintain the simulation centre as a clean, safe and operational education facility;
- Work with educators/facilitators to deliver and monitor simulation events/scenarios, including the operation of simulation equipment;
- Maintain expertise in the use of simulation A/V equipment and multimedia software and provide initial technical support/trouble shooting;
- Participate in scenarios, including the role playing of healthcare professionals, family members etc;
- Plan, organize and oversee the logistics and resource support for all education and simulation activities. Specific duties include:
- Coordinate and schedule the movement of equipment, supplies and materials for education activities across the province;
- Technical and physical preparation and dismantling of simulation equipment;
- Ensure all medical and non-medical equipment is maintained in good working order, including the completion of routine equipment maintenance, hardware and software upgrades as directed by manufacturer support;
- Identifies and communicates the need for replacement equipment;
- Maintain records of all medical and simulation equipment maintenance and repairs;
- Inventory control, including the ordering of all medical, non-medical and simulation supplies and replacement parts as required;
- Maintains professional skills and refines expertise through appropriate educational/development activities and professional affiliations.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a post-secondary health discipline program (paramedic, nursing, respiratory therapy etc.); Background in a technical, IT or education related field may also be considered;
- Two years’ experience working in a prehospital or acute care healthcare setting, and/or a health education environment or simulation learning environment;
Competencies:
- Knowledge of simulation best practices and the application of simulation technology;
- Knowledge of current products and technology used in medical simulation, including task trainers, medium and high fidelity simulators and multimedia software;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing requirements;
- Excellent technical skills required to facilitate the use of simulation equipment and trouble shoot malfunctions;
- Proficient with the use of computer software, including MS Office Suite, Apple iOS and comfort with information technology;
- Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision;
- Adaptable, with the ability to work cooperatively with a team of healthcare professionals and educators;
- Willingness to travel within Ontario to support the delivery of simulation.
