School of Business + Media is seeking a
regular, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Student Recruitment Specialist . The Student Recruitment Specialist is responsible for student recruitment activities and systems offered and supported by the institute’s Marketing and Communications department. In addition, the recruitment specialist investigates, develops and implements activities and technologies that support the departmental, school and institute’s strategic goals and business plans. This position works closely with the manager to develop partnerships within the institute and build relationships with industry associations and key secondary and post-secondary schools. Recruitment and follow-up efforts will focus on the Insurance and Risk Management program, and other School of Business + Media programs, including flexible learning
Duties & Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : - Provides information about School of Business + Media programs, services, and careers to identified target markets for the purpose of generating inquiries and applications; and, conducts personal follow-up with all interested prospective students.
- Professionally represents BCIT’s School of Business + Media and the Insurance and Risk Management program at all institutional in-person recruitment events such as BIG Info, program information sessions, off-campus education and career fairs, community information sessions and Information day for high school educators.
- Develops presentation material and recruitment packages with information related to program content, outcomes, career opportunities, entrance requirements and degree completion options.
- Identifies, researches and contacts industry associations, key secondary and post-secondary institutions to provide information on the school’s programs and schedule in-person visits and presentations. This includes contacting and building relationships with faculty offices at key post-secondary schools in the catchment areas. .
- Follows-up on established connections through personal visits and professional and engaging presentations at industry association offices, secondary schools and post-secondary institutions.
- Researches and identifies additional outreach opportunities such as presenting to companies, and attending industry trade shows.
- Works with the Marketing and Communications department (MarComm) to identify and implement School of Business + Media specific recruitment events and activities, to engage potential students such as business contests, work showcases, and a student ambassador program etc.
- Functions as the School of Business + Media representative for the high-school visit program coordinated through MarComm.
- Collects contact information from prospective students for inclusion in the student recruitment database and for subsequent student follow up.
- Through personal follow-up, invites prospective students to participate in in-person, on-campus experiences such as campus tours, spend-a-day, and faculty meetings for the purpose of increasing interest and converting prospects into applicants.
- Provides regular summary and statistics of recruitment activities to the School of Business + Media Leadership team.
- Refers prospective students to departments on campus such as Program Advising, Admissions and Student Financial Aid & Awards for assistance with entrance requirements, upgrading, application processes and financial aid.
- Utilizes innovative methods to enhance recruitment efforts such as hosting webinars for prospective business students
- Uses social media to provide information on opportunities to meet with the School of Business + Media recruiter and keep connected with leads generated through in-person recruitment efforts.
- Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies, and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
- Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS : Definition: The qualifications section for this position was developed using the approved job evaluation plan, agreed to between the BCGEU and BCIT. The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications
Education: - Grade 12 plus completion of a two year diploma program in business, marketing, operations or financial management.
License(s)/Certifications(s): - Valid BC Driver’s License and access to reliable and efficient transportation.
Experience: - Two years general business experience plus two years related marketing and sales experience, public speaking proficiency and effective use of presentation technology.
Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise: - Must be proficient with presentation technology, MS Office applications and social media software and technology.
- Working knowledge of desktop publishing software, such as InDesign or similar products.
Communication/Interpersonal Skills: - Proven ability to represent the organization in a professional and enthusiastic manner and to establish and maintain effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
Administrative Skills (e.g. prioritizing, minute taking, wp speed, etc.): - Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work on simultaneous projects independently, and meet critical deadlines, while being highly organized
Other Skills/Abilities: - Must have an acute awareness of social, economic and political implications of actions/decisions and excellent judgement to assess needs of clients;
- Proven ability to develop action plans based on set goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated skills in networking and building relationships.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Salary Range Salary Grade 8: $60,844 - $66,099 per annum.
Additional Salary Information External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment
