Lumenus Community Services is looking for dedicated and flexible Elect-to-work staff to provide relief to our youth (12-18 years of age) and adults (18+) who are either Dually Diagnosed and/or present with Mental Health issues. The programs focus on assessing the client’s needs and helping them to develop their communication, social, life and anger management skills while they live in a collaborative team environment.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Ensure supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment consistent with Agency Mission, Values, and Philosophy
 Work effectively independently and as a member of the team
 Follow and consistently implement individual treatment plans for clients
 Ensure communication of all pertinent client and program related information and events to other team members and members of the multi-disciplinary team including social worker, day program/school, and outside agencies.
 Complete and maintain up-to-date client records as per policies (i.e. client logs, medication records, incident reports).
 Assume various responsibilities in accordance with the operation of the residence (i.e.cooking, cleaning).
 Work requires the use of a computer and knowledge and use of Microsoft Office and client database systems
 Full participation in indoor and outdoor activities, where necessary
 Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to carry out all safety requirements and emergency procedures
 Participate in training provided by the Agency, which is specific to job requirements i.e., CPI, First Aid, CPR, etc.
 Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and practice Universal Precautions
 Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Experience in a residential setting and/or community setting.
 Demonstrated knowledge of competency in Narrative Therapy, and/or Collaborative Problem Solving based services to adolescents and their families is an asset
 Experience in working with individuals with complex mental health needs is an asset.
 Personal resilience combined with a compassionate, insightful perspective fostering a steady commitment to clients whose emotional, behavioural and mental health profiles can be acutely troubled for extended periods.
 Experience with implementation of treatment plans, preferably with individuals with complex needs, including mental health, developmental disability, autism spectrum, challenging behaviors, etc.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 Knowledge of LGBTQ, racialized, and newcomer communities, and youth/young adults with a dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental disability) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as lived experience of racism, ableism, homophobia, or transphobia are advantageous.
 Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting, bending and prolonged standing as well as the ability to be trained in CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) techniques.
 Ability to hold firm boundaries, ensuring actions are accountable to program direction
 Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
 Ability to balance demands/priorities of workload, manage time effectively and operate within the framework of stated expectations.
 Ability to resolve issues with supervisors and co-workers in a manner that is respectful and cooperative in accordance with the agency culture and philosophy
 Effective verbal and written communication, as well as organizational skills
 Strong organizational and administrative skills.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
 Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process.
 Medical clearance in accordance with Lumenus Community Services policy on preemployment medicals.
 Ability to work flexible hours based on a 24 hour-staffed program
 Comfortable working in different locations
