The Department of Wood and Forest Sciences is also responsible for the integrated bachelor’s degree in natural and managed environments. It has 35 full-time professors and lecturers, five research chairs, two teaching leadership chairs, three research consortiums, two research centers and over 500 undergraduate and graduate students. Collaborations with the Departments of Geography and Geomatics, as well as with other Faculties at Université Laval, also offer interesting opportunities for multidisciplinary research.
Job In keeping with its development plan, the Department of Wood and Forest Sciences is seeking a Professor in forest mycology and pathology. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in French at all levels, to support the department’s various programs, in particular, the bachelor’s degree in forest management and environment, the cooperative bachelor’s degree program in forest operations, and the integrated bachelor’s degree in natural and managed environments, and to develop a competitive research program in the targeted fields. More specifically, teaching and research activities will focus on the following areas:
Forest pathology as it relates to forest management and nursery stock production. Forest mycology focusing on the biology and ecological functions of fungi. Study of plant symbioses in tree nutrition and development. Impact of global change on the evolution of pathosystems and root symbioses. Development of strategies to increase tree resilience to disease and abiotic stress in urban environments. Responsibilities include: Teaching in French of forest pathology and mycology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The development of pedagogical and didactic material. Obtaining research funding from granting agencies and external partners to support their research. Conducting research and supervising graduate students on topics related to the above fields. Participating in departmental, faculty, university and multi-stakeholder (private and public sector) committees. The development of teaching and research in forest pathology and mycology at Forêt Montmorency or in another part of Université Laval’s woodlands. Collaborate with one or more existing research groups at Université Laval, such as the Centre for Forest Research and the Research Chair on Urban Trees and their Environment. Selection criterias Possess a bachelor’s degree in forestry, biology or a related discipline and a doctoral degree from a recognized university in a field related to the teaching and research areas listed above or be in the process of obtaining one. Possess expertise in the first two fields listed, as well as in at least one of the other three. Knowledge of forest pathology and mycology related issues in Quebec is an asset. Demonstrate academic pedagogy and knowledge transfer skills. Demonstrate the ability to obtain research funding from public or private granting agencies. Present a vision for the position in terms of academic pedagogy and research and propose concrete actions to achieve it. Eligibility for the Quebec Order of Forest Engineers is an asset.
