Yard Attendant
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Facility Supervisor, the Yard Attendant plays a vital role in the efficient and safe operation of waste handling processes. This position involves working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a variety of equipment, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The Yard Attendant is responsible for waste identification, consolidation, preparation for transportation, and overall maintenance of a clean and organized facility. Occasional travel may be required for project-related tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operations:
- Identify, handle, and prepare waste in compliance with legislation and TDG regulations.
- Provide excellent customer interactions during both on-site and off-site activities.
- Complete customer pick-ups and drop-offs efficiently.
- Conduct equipment inspections and daily maintenance to ensure safe operations.
- Provide necessary information to the Supervisor for paperwork completion.
- Fill out load sheets and load inventories accurately.
- Load and unload trailers and customer drop-offs with precision.
- Follow Safe Work Practices (SWP’s), adhere to Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s), and report incidents to the Supervisor.
- Utilize visual aids to maintain facility and yard tidiness.
- Complete consolidation reports for all waste consolidation.
- Operate small to large-sized equipment confidently and safely.
- Assist in emergency spill clean-up responses.
Tools, Systems, Equipment, and Machinery:
- Forklift operation.
- Rubber Tired Loader operation.
- Pallet jack usage.
- Skid Steer operation.
- Handling various types of processing equipment.
- Utilizing various hand tools.
Compliance, Health, and Safety Support:
- Lead by example and promote a culture of safety and environmental protection.
- Ensure adherence to Health and Safety Management System.
- Possess good knowledge of safe work standards, policies, and procedures.
- Assist in assessing needs, sourcing, and distributing PPE.
- Participate in toolbox meetings.
- Complete or assist with completion of FLHAs.
- Provide HSE related documents in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Class 1 or 3 Unrestricted Driver's license is considered an asset.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Physical fitness to work in all weather conditions.
- WHMIS Certification (training provided).
- TDG Certification (training provided).
- Recommended immunizations due to possible exposure.
Working Conditions:
- Possibility of cuts, bruises, straining, disease, or severe injury if safe work practices are not followed.
- Work carried out indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions during winter months.
- Exposure to dust, noise, mud, water, smoke, and bacteria may occur.
