YOUR IMPACT
As a Tax Manager , you will become part of a growing tax department, responsible for regional corporate tax compliance, income tax accounting and tax audit management. As a part of the global tax team, this position will play an integral role in the development and growth of the department and in achieving OpenText’s objectives regarding tax planning, analysis, and compliance. The Tax Department at OpenText is instrumental in d eferring or reducing cash taxes, e nsuring timely and accurate tax reporting, and m anaging and balancing tax risks.
This role reports to the Sr. Tax Manager for the Canada/LATAM region and can be based out of either the Richmond Hill or Waterloo office in a hybrid set up. This is a MAT Leave contract with a duration of 12 - 18 months on OpenText payroll. OpenText Contractors will be eligible of health & dental insurance, holiday pay, and accrual of PTO.
WHAT THE ROLE OFFERS
- Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual regional income tax provisions in accordance with US GAAP (ASC 740) including interaction with external auditors, reconciliation of income tax accounts and compliance with SOX regulations.
- Oversee and review the preparation of income tax returns and related compliance for all Canadian legal entities.
- Support and/or lead various process improvements initiatives adopting new and innovative technologies to eliminate repetitive tasks, increase productivity and drive quality deliverables.
- Assist in managing all Canadian tax audits and liaise with external tax auditors.
- Keep up to date on regional tax law changes and their impact on the organization including changes to the Income Tax Act and ASC 740.
- Assist in the preparation and review of forecasted income and cash tax payments for inclusion in the quarterly and annual forecasts of the groups consolidated income tax provision and operating cash flow.
- Work closely with the broader global tax team of 50+ tax professionals, build relationships with other departments and liaise with external tax counsels and advisors as necessary.
- Support and provide tax analysis for tax planning initiatives and special projects relevant to the region as requested.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
- University degree specializing in business, finance, or accounting
- 5+ years of global tax accounting experience either in public practice or industry. Experience with multinational corporations will be considered an asset.
- Canadian CPA designation
- Completion or working towards completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Program
- Solid knowledge of ASC 740 and Canadian corporate income tax principles
- Experience in the following technical areas: ASC 740, FIN 48 reserve analysis, FAPI, Upstream Loans, T106 and T1134 reporting
- Ability to identify issues and opportunities and call upon organizational resources to develop solutions
- Strong project management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects with conflicting timelines
- Knowledge of Longview, SAP, and BPC reporting tools will be considered an asset
- Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office suite
