Job description
Financial Accountant – Full-time Permanent – Kingston, ON.
Reporting to the CFO, the Financial Accountant will act as a strong right hand to the CFO, and will be responsible for the day-to-day general accounting of the business, manage the month end close and produce financial statements complete with analysis for review with the CFO, s/he will also manage the year-end review, support forecasting and budgeting initiatives, be a backup to payroll, work closely with operations & customer service, and assist with system implementation project(s) and improvement initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounts Receivable:
- Running daily imports of customer invoices & processing of payments, checking completeness and validity of transactions by way of reports, reconciliations and inquiries with the customer service team (wkly 8hrs).
- You will be the primary contact person and resource for the customer service team for all AR matters.
- Ensure AR filing(s) are organized and up to date.
General Accounting & Financial Analysis:
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, compliance reporting (HST, PST, WSIB, Payroll Taxes)
- Prepare and post standard & month end journal entries
- Oversee all daily/weekly accounting transactions
- Perform GL account reconciliations as needed.
- Provide analysis of monthly inventory, gross margin and variances, as well as insight to influence positive performance.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for review with CFO along with analysis
- Prepare financial reports for managers along with analysis
- Assist with process improvement opportunities
- Responsible for completing the year end review file.
- Responsible for the financial completeness and validity of the GL
- Adhoc projects as requested
Payroll:
- Backup to payroll (Ceridian)
- Review payroll JE’s for completeness and validity + prepare labour accruals
- Reconcile payroll to GL, yearend T4’s and statements
- Calculate taxable benefits as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Formal education in accounting or finance
- Minimum 2-4 years progressive experience
- Full cycle accounting experience
- Experience using QuickBooks an asset
- Excellent communication skills
- Comfortable presenting financial information to managers along with insight and analysis
- Experience working with multiple currencies
- Desire and ability to learn and adapt to new challenges
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to interact with employees and customers in a courteous and professional manner
- Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills
- Proficient in MS office, specifically excel
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset as occasional trips to the bank may be required.
