Industrial Mechanic

Primary Function:
The position of Industrial Mechanic is part of the unionized trade personnel for Halifax Gear Repair & Maintenance Local 1825 ILA. The position works on Terminal equipment like Terminal Tractors, Front End Loaders, Trailers, Fork Lifts, Pickup Trucks, Rubber Tire Gantries (RTG's), and Ship To Shore (STS) cranes, in order to ensure that the detailed task is done to the full requirements of the maintenance schedule and/or repair procedure. The position ensures that the Terminal equipment is maintained and in good safe working condition, while meeting the requirements of Terminal/ vessel operations in a cost effective manner.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:
A diploma from a recognizable educational institution for the trade of Industrial Mechanic and/or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certification. The position requires at least 3 to 4 years industry related Mechanical experience. Experience in maintaining and upgrading Mechanical work is desired. Experience in port related work and/or terminal work is also considered an advantage.
Training:
Elevated work platforms, Fall protection, Forklift, WHIMIS Specific, LOTO, Propane safety.

Hours of Work:
This position is required to work for the most part from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; but may be on a rotation shift for weekend/nights. The position will be required to be accessible and able to respond to on a 24/7 schedule; Overtime is therefore expected in this position.
