Educational Qualifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate
- Registration to ‘full scope of practice' with provincial professional association
- CPR/First Aid
- Dementia care training an asset
- Successful completion of an annual AIS competency test is required
Work Experience
- Experience working with the elderly and/or disabled preferred
- Experience working with families, guardians and professional groups an asset
- Computer experience an asset

Span of Authority Includes
- Working within the LPN practice statement, competencies and conduct as defined by the Health Professions Act or other relevant legislation and governing professional organization
- Utilizing the nursing process to ensure holistic care according to the GSS Care Standards
- Monitoring and communicating unit/program staffing needs
- Identifying and responding to safety issues with immediate action
- Participating in the supervision and evaluation of staff
- Monitoring and communicating the need for supplies and equipment required for resident care
Span of Authority Excludes
- Approving the usage of overtime hours and leaves of absences
- Denying admissions independently
- Taking disciplinary action
- Ordering and using non approved products/services
- Operating outside collective agreements or terms of agreements, policies, procedures and legislation

External Influence
- Represents The Good Samaritan Society and their site location by working cooperatively with community partners; including: contract services, educational institutions, diverse faith based groups and others.
- Provides all the components of nursing care expected of an LPN including ‘hands on' care as a requirement
- Ensures care plans for residents are current, followed and accurately reflect the care needs of the Communicates changes in resident condition and care to appropriate decision makers (guardian, family, agent, resident) and team members, may include physicians
- Exhibits strong leadership skills and strives diligently to resolve conflict situations with families/staff in a positive, cooperative manner, always reporting family concerns immediately and working as an advocate for resident care. Sound judgment and decisiveness is used consistently when addressing problems
- Contributes to the supervision of care assignments based on residents' needs including daily living and restricted activities
- May assist in monitoring the competence of unregulated staff assigned to carry out the care
- Supervises and supports staff, giving timely feedback and regular coaching to improve performance where applicable
- Monitors and delivers medication according to GSS medication processes and procedures
- Documents in a concise and accurate manner that meets organizational, legislative and legal requirements
- Participates in admission and discharge process and care conferences
- Identifies and responds immediately to risk management issues
- Reports and documents all unusual or risk situations in a timely manner including monitoring the responsible and cost effective use of supplies and equipment
- Proactively communicates with team members to resolve unit issues, communicate changes, and solicit feedback from Facilitates ongoing change by acting as a positive role model to all staff
- Reports and addresses safety hazards in a timely manner including participating in effective management of staff injury and disability
- Able to manage specialized duties and work cooperatively with team members to provide excellent client care by demonstrating an ability to be flexible and balances shifting priorities of the unit
- Ensures resident care is delivered in a way that acknowledges resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, spirituality and individuality inclusive of a home-like environment
- Demonstrates dependability by reporting to work on time and as scheduled
