Job description

Summary

To manage and ensure the reliable operation of a number of computer-based security, communications, and safety systems in designated buildings by designing, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining and upgrading mini-computers, local area networks, communications interfaces, door controller sand monitors, card access systems, CCTV, intercom systems, personal alarm transmitter monitoring systems, fire alarms, uninterrupted power supply systems and perimeter intruder detection and alarm systems. 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Design, install, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade systems.

a. monitor performance of both hardware, software, networks and related equipment; b. identify system problems anddevelop solutions; c. install new systems and/or upgrades of existing systems; d. perform hardware, software and network maintenance to ensure ongoing stable operation; e. diagnose problems and take action to correct them; f. re-start and download software, reinitialize devices and take other necessary steps to maintain systems in, or restore them to, operational status g. directs contractors and staff to perform repairs and maintenance to systems and establishes performance standards, monitors work performed to ensure compliance with BCBC standards and codes; h. schedules and prioritizes annual maintenance; i. writes and develops specifications, tenders contracts, Purchase Orders and recommends award of same for system contracts; j. reviews drawings, test procedures and manuals systems hardware, software and related equipment

2. Related duties

a. Responds to emergency calls such as alarms, power outages, system crashes, equipment failures etc. b. Provides estimates for operation, maintenance and project budgets; provides input into long range plans.

3. Assigns, monitors, and checks work of assigned workers and contractors 

DECISION MAKING CAPACITY

Responsible for developing, installing, inspecting and maintaining a wide array of systems within a corrections setting including full maintenance of systems. Operates a Corporate vehicle and hand and power tools while completing duties. Updates and maintains project information on database.

1. Must be able to assess the limitations of Technicians in the safe performance of their duties

2. Required to balance resources between client demands and operational/legislated requirements

3. Make recommendations when subcontractors or outside workers are required for the delivery of work

4. Make recommendations and implement remedies for the PM reporting program

5. Make recommendations to the Facility Manager on project planning and budgeting
