We’re looking to enhance our team by welcoming a Senior Manager, Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) reporting directly to the Director, Food Safety and Quality Assurance. The Senior Manager FSQA is accountable for the execution of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs at our facilities and throughout the supplier and customer base. Additionally, the Senior Manager FSQA will establish and maintain positive, motivational relationships with the entire Operations and Manufacturing team, regulatory authorities, and other internal and external stakeholders while leading and developing the FSQA team. The Senior Manager FSQA is a key member of the facilities management team and is responsible for driving continuous FSQA improvement in a two-shift, dynamic, and growing environment.
The role:
- Provide FSQA leadership and guidance on a daily basis to direct reports and to other functional groups.
- Lead, coach, develop and motivate the facilities FSQA team.
- With TONFI leadership team, continue to grow and enhance the FSQA culture.
- Actively participate in cross functional meetings, inclusive of senior management reviews, sanitation meetings, production meetings and other as needed.
- Contribute as a key member of the facilities leadership team, providing risk and science-based input on quality / continuous improvement opportunities and driving food safety culture.
- Work to a standard of “audit ready every day”; lead all internal and external audits (BRC, Customer, FDA, CFIA, Claims).
- Lead and facilitate Food Safety and Quality risk assessment and root cause analysis on the introduction of new equipment / technology, new product development, or in cases of food safety or quality challenges.
- Ensure timely, effective, and sustainable resolution of any corrective actions related to internal / external audits, food safety or quality incidents.
- Ensure effective and timely execution of all FSQA programs to meet TONFI, customer and regulatory requirements / standards.
- Provide technical and scientific leadership during any potential crisis situation and/or product recall or withdrawal.
- Lead effective resolution of customer complaints.
- Act as primary lead for HACCP team.
- With Director of Operations, build and develop statistical process control capabilities for control and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and report on established KPI’s with responsibility for proactively identifying trends, deviations and providing recommendation for corrective action, both to plant leadership team and senior management. Create new KPI’s as needed to address continuous improvement needs.
- Create and implement effective training to support GMP / HACCP / Sanitation programs at all levels of the company, and provide routine employee training on quality, regulatory, and food safety principles and policies.
- In conjunction with Plant Operations, implement quality enhancement processes and procedures at the facilities level to achieve process improvements and cost savings.
Supervisory Responsibilities.
- Direct Reports – Manager, Sanitation; 2 Senior Technicians; HACCP Coordinator; 4 Technicians, Incoming Inspection Technician.
You Offer:
- Bachelor’s or Masters’ degree in food science, microbiology, FSQA, or related field.
- 7 -10 years of food related FSQA management experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience successfully leading a FSQA team in a GFSI certified (BRC is an asset), CFIA licenced ready-to-eat facility.
- Demonstrable knowledge of SFCR, FSMA, Gluten-Free Certification, RTE Environmental programs and allergen control.
- Servant leadership approach to managing teams and supporting the business.
- Lead by example, hands-on management style that incorporates coaching for success with a risk-based approach to FSQA.
- Believes in leading quality from the floor, spending time on the floor coaching, leading and overseeing.

- Experience with deployment of a quality management system and CTQ's (Critical to Quality Parameters) would be an asset.
- Proven ability to set and prioritize goals and objectives and effectively communicate these to peers, direct reports, and senior leadership.
- Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation practices in a ready-to-eat facility.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access software.
- Knowledge of Alchemy training platform an asset.
