About Us

 

Nova Scotia is rich in natural resources including biodiversity, forests, geological resources, provincial parks, and the land we manage. The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables is responsible for the development, management, conservation and protection of forest, mineral, parks and wildlife resources and the administration of the province's Crown lands. Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management as we all benefit from the natural health and wealth of the province.

 

Nova scotia has entered into a joint agreement with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to develop and deliver the Federal-Provincial Two Billion Trees program. The project is in two parts. Phase 1 focuses on scoping and development of the 2BT program including identification of partnership-based projects. These now form the basis for Phase 2 – Implementation. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 will be the focus of this position.



 

About Our Opportunity

 

Under the supervision of the Manger, Forest Research and Planning and working closely with the 2BT program lead, the 2BT Coordinator assists the Program Specialist in the administration and delivery of an anticipated multi-year provincial tree planting program in support of the Federal 2-Billion Trees Initiative launched by NRCan in 2021.

 

Primary Accountabilities

 

Reporting to the Manager, Forest Research and Planning, your primary accountabilities will include:

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

This may be the right opportunity for you if you:

 

Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in forestry or related field, and a minimum one (1) year of experience in natural resource management or project management.

 

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be a problem solver, and demonstrated initiative, client-focus, and skills in planning and time management.

 

The successful candidate must have an aptitude for natural resource project management. This position also requires a strong working knowledge of computer software including email, word processing and spreadsheet applications, as well as creating documentation for system or process changes, including writing procedures and user guides.

 

Experience in forest management or ecosystem restoration are considered assets. Working knowledge of forestry practices, forest ecology, and ecological restoration principles are other assets to be considered. Aptitude with GIS and ESRI products is an asset.

 

You must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

 

This position is a combination of office work (based in Truro) and travel province-wide to forest environments to facilitate 2BT projects and to collaborate with project clients. Field work will include extensive working in forest environments and carrying small amounts of field equipment.

 

Additional Information

 

This is a temporary opportunity with an anticipated end date of November 30, 2024. However, the position status ( “temporary” or “casual”) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: PR 06 - PR 10

Salary Range:  $1,915.37 - $2,746.69 Bi-Weekly
