Fitter Welder
Hourly rate of pay: $38.58
We have an opportunity for a Fitter Welder to join our production team at our facility in Owen Sound, ON. Each member of our team plays a critical role in BWXT Canada’s success and in ensuring we meet our customers’ quality, cost and delivery expectations. Our tradespeople are considered the best in the industry and we are proud of the high level of technical skills they demonstrate every day.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all types of fitting and all position manual welding on company products as required (welds not subject to RT/UT inspection) to quality standards.
- Positions, fits and assembles materials according to drawings, prints, jigs and/or layouts; cuts and fits templates and gaskets as necessary. Completes necessary layout for fitting attachments.
- Performs pressure testing procedures.
- Reads and interprets Production Orders, Drawings, Shop Instruction Sheets (SIS), Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS); plans and organizes details of working procedure for tool and material requirements.
- Slings and/or transports, and/or positions material and equipment to and from work area manually by hooking for overhead crane or by using floor operated overhead crane or forklift; sets up jigs and holding devices in work area as required. Performs Class 2 lifts to maintain their own production requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Successful completion of an intermediate welder program and/or test.
- Advanced understanding of blueprint reading.
- Must be available to work any of the following shifts:
- Days: 6:00am to 4:00pm. (Mon – Thurs) OR;
- Afternoons: 4:00pm – 2:00am (Mon – Thurs) OR;
- Weekend days: 6:00am – 5:00pm (Fri, Sat, Sun; paid for 40 hours) OR;
- Weekend afternoons: 5:00pm - 4:00am (Fri, Sat, Sun; paid for 40 hours).
Candidates selected for interviews will need to undergo the following:
- Written test relating to welding and fitting theory, blueprint reading and weld symbols.
- Two weld tests (performed on mild steel plate):
- 3G Vertical 3/8” plate test. Process (GTAW)
- 2G Horizontal 3/8” plate test. Process (GMAW). (Short Circuit).
