Job description
The Transportation Division of the Public Works Department is looking to hire temporary staff to perform the role of Traffic Signal Servicer. Under the general direction of the Traffic Signals Crew Chief, the Traffic Signals Services is responsible for the installation, modification, repair, and maintenance of traffic control signals, pedestrian corridors, and other electrical traffic control devices. The work is carried out predominantly outdoors, by day or night under all weather conditions.
As the Traffic Signals Servicer you will:
- Assemble, erect, and wire traffic signal poles.
- Install service connections from hydro grid.
- Install underground cable into conduits.
- Install and maintain traffic signal controllers.
- Install and maintain audible pedestrian signals, push buttons, and vehicle detection equipment.
- Provide underground clearances of traffic signals plant.
Your education and qualifications include:
- Valid Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician's "HC" License.
- Experience conducting electrical troubleshooting.
- Experience with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering construction drawings.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to understand verbal and written instruction.
- Knowledge of The Manitoba Electrical Code.
- Knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Health Act and safe work procedures.
- IMPORTANT : Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service at application.
Conditions of employment:
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Possess and maintain a valid Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician's "HC" License.
- Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License.
- Ability to obtain a Manitoba Class 3 Drivers License (With air brake endorsement) within 6 months.
- Successful applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination, and/or eye examination screening for colour blindness or colour vision defects.
- Physically able to perform the duties of the job, which may include, but are not limited to:
- Working outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions
- Able to lift and move objects up to 75 lbs.
- Able to stand and walk for prolonged periods and over uneven terrain, snow and ice.
- Able to work overhead and at heights for extended periods, including performing electrical and assembly aerial work from a bucket device.
- Able to operate large trucks equipped with aerial bucket device(s) and hydraulic accessories and attachments.
