The Animal Care Committees (ACC) at UNB understand that animals play an essential role in biomedical, psychological and zoological research, as well as in teaching. Research for which animals are required continues to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in many disciplines and to the improvement of human and animal life. The welfare of animals used in research is of great importance to UNB. The central purpose of the Institutional Animal Care Committees on the two campuses is therefore to assure that the procurement, care, and use of animals in research and teaching meet the highest ethical standards. The ACCs fall under the purview of the Office of the Vice-President (Research).
WHAT WE OFFER

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 20 hours per week
Salary Range: $22.68 - $26.33 per hour
YOUR FOCUS
The person in this position will report directly to the Manager of the Office of the VP (Research) and is responsible for performing administrative duties for the Animal Care Committees at UNB.
- Act as a first point of contact on all Animal Care Committee questions and concerns
- Ensure a well-organized, efficiently run office by performing all the necessary routine duties associated with administrative work (i.e. answering phones and emails, word processing, scanning, filing, handling mail etc.)
- Purchase all necessary office supplies and process all internal payment forms for various expenses and purchases and communicate account balances to the Directors as requested.
- Have a working knowledge of any polices and/or guidelines (both internal and external) which govern the work of the Animal Care Committees.
- Receive and process all Animal Care protocols.
- Arrange and attend all ACC meetings and take efficient and accurate minutes.
- Coordinate all aspects of all ACC Site Visits, Facility Assessments or Lab Inspections both internal and external.
- Complete and submit annual reports (Animal Use Data Form) to the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC)
- Update and maintain all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Animal Care Committees.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Post Secondary education in a related field.
- 3 years of relevant experience.
Additional Strengths
- Exceptional skills in time management, prioritization, attention to detail, multi-tasking, communication, flexibility, problem-solving, and discretion.
- Skills to develop and maintain constructive operating relationships with offices both internal and external to the University.
- Strong skills in such software as MS Word, Excel, Access, and Adobe Acrobat, to be able to create and manipulate databases, spreadsheets, tables, and forms.
- Strong skills in email/calendar software (i.e. MS Outlook) in order to keep a computerized schedule and maintain an electronic contact list.
